Role Overview

The Sustainability Consultant is a strategic role responsible for embedding sustainability excellence across workplace projects.

This position demands a hands-on sustainability expert who combines performance-driven design thinking with strong project leadership. You will lead climate-responsive strategies, building performance simulations, and certification processes, ensuring sustainability is not an add-on but an integrated driver of design and delivery.

You are a systems thinker who translates complex environmental data into clear, actionable design decisions. You bring structure to sustainability goals, precision to performance analysis, and confidence to stakeholder conversations.

Key Responsibilities

Sustainability Strategy & Advisory

• Develop clear sustainability roadmaps, targets, and KPIs for workplace projects aligned with client aspirations and regulatory frameworks.

• Advise on climate-conscious design strategies including orientation, massing, façade optimization, passive design, and nature-based solutions.

• Integrate sustainability objectives at concept stage to influence long-term building performance outcomes.

• Establish measurable benchmarks for energy, water, carbon, material impact, and occupant wellbeing.

Building Performance & Simulation

• Lead daylight, energy, thermal comfort, wind, and shadow simulations using BIM-based and performance tools.

• Translate simulation outputs into structured design recommendations and alternative scenarios for project teams.

• Review façade systems, material specifications, and MEP strategies for performance optimization. • Drive data-backed decision-making across architectural and interior design teams.

Green Building Certifications

• Lead pre-certification and certification processes across rating systems such as LEED, GRIHA, IGBC, and GreenMark.

• Manage documentation, narratives, calculations, and submissions with rigor and accuracy.

• Coordinate with certification bodies, consultants, and internal teams to ensure timely and successful ratings.

• Standardize certification workflows and documentation frameworks across projects.

Design Integration & Technical Excellence

• Work closely with architecture, interiors, and MEP teams to embed sustainability requirements into drawings and specifications.

• Review material selections and systems for environmental performance and occupant wellbeing.

• Ensure sustainability compliance is maintained through design development and execution stages.

• Develop best-practice guidelines and reusable templates for future projects.

Project & Program Leadership

• Lead multiple sustainability workstreams across concurrent projects, ensuring timely delivery and technical accuracy.

• Establish structured tracking systems for sustainability goals and performance metrics.

• Prepare clear client-facing presentations, dashboards, and performance reports. • Support project teams in risk identification and mitigation related to environmental targets.

Client Engagement & Business Support

• Act as the sustainability subject matter expert in client workshops, presentations, and reviews. • Support business development teams with sustainability inputs for proposals and RFP responses. • Communicate complex technical insights in a clear, compelling, and business-aligned manner.

• Position sustainability as a value driver — enhancing performance, cost efficiency, and long-term resilience.

Leadership & Knowledge Development

• Mentor and guide junior sustainability professionals and interns. • Build internal capability through training sessions and knowledge-sharing forums. • Stay ahead of regulatory updates, certification changes, and emerging sustainability technologies. • Foster a culture of data-driven design, ownership, and environmental accountability.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Architecture (B.Arch); Master’s in Sustainable Design.

• 7+ years of experience in sustainable design, environmental design, or building performance roles.

• Strong expertise in daylight, energy, façade, wind, and thermal simulations. • Proficiency in Revit, BIM-based analysis tools, and relevant performance software. • Deep understanding of green building rating systems and documentation processes. • Council of Architecture registration; WELL AP or equivalent credential preferred. • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and multidisciplinary teams.
