Sr. Software Development Manager, ASFT, Shiptech

Description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Manager of Software Development to lead a multi-team engineering organization responsible for building the technology that reimagines shipping and logistics at scale. In this role, you will own a software area of strategic importance within Amazon Shipping Foundation Technology (ASFT) — defining a multi-year vision, coordinating the work of multiple engineering teams, and delivering platforms that provide fast, reliable, and scalable shipping solutions enabling critical business decisions across Amazon's global shipping operations.

You will manage leaders, set engineering standards, and drive innovation at the intersection of shipping infrastructure, logistics systems, and GenAI-native solutions — powering the foundational technology that underpins Amazon's end-to-end shipping experience.

Key job responsibilities

• Work closely with software developers and managers to architect and develop the best technical designs, architectures and implementations.
• Develop monthly, quarterly and yearly strategy and roadmaps for the team based on project priorities and project benefit.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences.
• Work with Product and Program Managers to develop and evolve the vision and strategy for the team.
• Use Agile principles to run the development lifecycle for team’s applications and services.
• Manage, execute and communicate project plans and delivery commitments.
• Staff, mentor, enhance and maintain a best-of-class software development teams.

Amazon Shipping Foundation Technology (ASFT) is a core engineering organization within larger ShipTech, responsible for building the foundational technology platforms that power Amazon's shipping ecosystem. We are the backbone of Amazon's shipping experience — designing and operating the systems that enable packages to move seamlessly from fulfillment centers to customers' doorsteps at unprecedented speed and scale.

Our team tackles some of the most complex challenges in logistics technology — from real-time shipment orchestration and carrier integration to intelligent routing and delivery optimization. We build highly available, low-latency platforms that process millions of shipping events daily, serving as the critical infrastructure layer that upstream and downstream systems depend on.

Basic Qualifications

• 10+ years of engineering experience
• 5+ years of engineering team management experience
• 10+ years of planning, designing, developing and delivering consumer software experience
• Experience partnering with product or program management teams
• Experience managing multiple concurrent programs, projects and development teams in an Agile environment
• Bachelor's degree
