Senior Engineering Manager – Java Backend (AI + B2C/D2C)

Role Overview

We are looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to lead backend engineering for high-scale B2C/D2C platforms, driving customer-facing systems that handle large user traffic, personalization, and seamless digital experiences. This role requires deep expertise in Java backend systems along with exposure to AI-driven product capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and scale backend engineering teams building consumer-facing (B2C/D2C) platforms
• Architect and develop high-performance, scalable systems for high-traffic user journeys (search, checkout, personalization, etc.)
• Drive microservices-based architecture using Java (Spring Boot ecosystem)
• Collaborate with Product, Growth, and Marketing teams to enhance customer experience and conversion funnels
• Integrate AI/ML capabilities like recommendation engines, chatbots, or personalization into backend systems
• Ensure platform reliability, performance, and scalability during peak traffic scenarios
• Own end-to-end delivery: design → development → deployment → monitoring
• Mentor engineers and build a strong engineering culture

Required Skills & Experience

• 12–15 years of backend engineering experience with strong Java/Spring Boot
• Proven experience in B2C/D2C product companies (high user scale is a must)
• Strong expertise in distributed systems, system design, and scalability
• Hands-on experience with microservices, REST APIs, event-driven architecture
• Experience with databases: MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Cassandra
• Strong exposure to cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure)
• Experience in handling high TPS systems, caching (Redis), and performance optimization

AI/ML Exposure (Preferred)

• Experience integrating AI features like:
• Recommendation systems (user personalization)
• Chatbots / conversational AI
• Search relevance optimization
• Understanding of LLMs, RAG architectures, or AI APIs
• Exposure to tools like Python, LangChain, or ML pipelines is a plus

Good to Have

• Experience in eCommerce, fintech, or consumer internet platforms
• Exposure to real-time streaming (Kafka, Pub/Sub)
• Prior experience in high-growth startups or unicorns
