Software QA Engineer at Cisco

The Wireless Test & Automation team plays an important role in ensuring Cisco's networking solutions meet the highest standards of reliability, stability, and performance before they reach customers. Engineers on this team collaborate closely with software developers, platform engineers, and system architects to verify new features, reproduce customer-reported issues, automate repetitive testing tasks, and improve overall product quality.

What You'll Do

As a Software QA Engineer, you will participate in every stage of the software testing lifecycle. Your responsibilities will include designing comprehensive test strategies, executing functional and regression testing, automating test cases, and collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams to resolve technical issues.

Your Day-to-day Responsibilities Include

Design and execute test plans for Cisco wireless networking products.
Develop and maintain automation scripts using Python and related scripting tools.
Perform functional, regression, integration, and performance testing.
Analyze test execution reports and identify software defects.
Reproduce customer-reported issues in controlled lab environments.
Configure and maintain networking testbeds using routers, switches, and wireless access points.
Work closely with software developers to investigate bugs and verify fixes.
Improve automation coverage to reduce manual testing efforts.
Use AI-powered engineering tools such as GitHub Copilot and Cursor to enhance productivity.
Document test results and contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives.

Required Qualifications

Cisco is looking for candidates who possess strong technical fundamentals along with an eagerness to learn enterprise networking technologies.

Applicants Should Have

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
1–3 years of software testing or automation experience.
Strong programming knowledge in Python or another scripting language.
Understanding of software testing principles and quality assurance methodologies.
Knowledge of TCP/IP networking fundamentals.
Basic understanding of DHCP, DNS, and routing concepts.
Excellent analytical and debugging abilities.
Strong communication and collaboration skills.
A detail-oriented mindset with excellent problem-solving capabilities.

Preferred Skills

While not mandatory, the following skills can strengthen your application:

Experience working with routers, switches, or wireless access points.
Knowledge of Wi-Fi and IEEE 802.11 standards.
Familiarity with Linux operating systems.
Experience creating automation frameworks.
Basic understanding of Continuous Integration (CI/CD).
Experience using Git for version control.
Knowledge of network troubleshooting techniques.
Exposure to enterprise networking environments through projects or internships.
CCNA certification or willingness to pursue it.
