THE ROLE

SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER-2 (DATA ENGINEERING)

We’re looking for an SDE-2 Data Engineer to join our growing Data Engineering team. In this role, you will design and build scalable data platforms, pipelines, and services that power analytics, engineering, and data-science initiatives across the organization. You will work closely with business and engineering teams to translate complex requirements into robust data solutions while maintaining high standards of system design and code quality.

Success in this role means taking ownership of data engineering modules end-to-end, optimizing performance of data systems, and continuously improving the reliability and scalability of our data infrastructure. This position plays a critical role in enabling data-driven decision-making and supporting Quince’s broader mission of offering exceptional quality at incredible value.

Responsibilities:

• Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines, tools, and services delivered by the Data Engineering team.
• Develop and deploy cloud-based data engineering solutions to support engineering, analytics, and data-science use cases
• Collaborate closely with business and engineering stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into scalable technical solutions
• Own low-level system design and implementation while maintaining high standards of coding and architectural quality
• Take end-to-end ownership of modules within your functional area
• Continuously optimize data systems to improve performance, reliability, and both read/write latencies
• Evaluate, research, and integrate modern big data frameworks and tools to support evolving data capabilities
• Spend the majority of time on hands-on programming, development, and research while collaborating with stakeholders when required
• Work through ambiguity by collaborating across teams to identify solutions and deliver outcomes
• Ensure operational excellence through monitoring, debugging, and improving the efficiency of data workflows and service.
  
  

Qualifications:

• Experience working with big data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, Hive, or Presto
• Experience with message queues and streaming platforms such as Kafka, Kinesis, or RabbitMQ
• Proficiency in at least one programming language — Python, Java, or Scala
• Experience building highly available, fault-tolerant REST services, ideally for data ingestion or data extraction
• Strong understanding of data warehousing fundamentals and data modeling concepts
• Strong SQL skills including T-SQL, PL-SQL, Spark SQL, or HiveQL
• Experience integrating and processing data from multiple data sources
• Good understanding of distributed computing principles
• Strong analytical and quantitative skills with the ability to work with large and complex datasets
  
  

Preferred:

• Experience working with cloud-native services (AWS preferred)
• Experience with MPP data warehouses such as Snowflake or Redshift
• Strong proficiency with Apache Spark and Apache Kafka
• Experience working with NoSQL databases such as Redis, DynamoDB, or Memcache.
