About The Role

We’re looking for a Shopify App Developer with 1–3 years of hands-on experience in Shopify app development to join U.Labs’ product and technology team.

This is not a Shopify website or theme development role.

This is a product role focused on building, improving, and scaling U.Labs-owned Shopify app products. You will work on our internal IP in the commerce SaaS space — building merchant-facing app capabilities, backend systems, integrations, billing flows, and product experiences that are part of our own software ecosystem.

You will be working in a product environment, not a service-delivery setup. That means your work will contribute to roadmap execution, product quality, user experience, feature scalability, and the long-term evolution of our apps.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys building software products from the inside, thinking deeply about merchant workflows, and shipping reliable app functionality that can scale across brands and use cases.

What You’ll Do

Product-Focused Shopify App Development

• Build and maintain U.Labs-owned Shopify app products for the commerce ecosystem
• Develop embedded and non-embedded Shopify apps that work seamlessly with the Shopify admin
• Build merchant-facing and customer-facing product features, backend logic, and app workflows as part of our core product roadmap
• Contribute to the ongoing evolution, reliability, and scalability of our Shopify app products
• Participate in improving the product across usability, performance, merchant experience, and technical architecture
  
  

Shopify Platform Engineering

• Work with Shopify Admin APIs, Storefront APIs, GraphQL, REST APIs, and webhooks
• Implement secure OAuth flows, app installation logic, merchant session handling, and permission scopes
• Build features involving products, orders, subscriptions, customer actions, billing, and operational workflows
• Work on Shopify billing implementation, app plans, usage logic, and merchant account flows
• Build and support app extensions, admin experiences, and app-side platform functionality
  
  

Backend & Systems Development

• Design and build backend services that power app capabilities and internal product workflows
• Handle webhook processing, scheduled jobs, background tasks, and event-driven logic
• Build and maintain integrations with third-party systems such as payments, notifications, analytics, operational tools, and external SaaS platforms
• Work on integration architecture and implementation across app workflows, backend services, and external systems as part of core product development
• Ensure app-side systems are scalable, secure, reliable, and maintainable
• Write clean business logic for data sync, workflow automation, and merchant-side feature execution
  
  

Frontend & Merchant Experience

• Build clean and intuitive merchant-facing app interfaces using React and Shopify Polaris
• Create responsive and usable admin experiences inside Shopify
• Work closely with design and product stakeholders to convert requirements into polished interfaces
• Maintain reusable components and frontend patterns that support long-term product scale
  
  

Product & Engineering Collaboration

• Translate product requirements and business context into technical solutions
• Collaborate with product, design, and leadership teams on roadmap execution
• Help identify technical improvements, feature opportunities, and better ways to structure the product
• Debug issues across frontend, backend, integrations, and live merchant environments
• Conduct developer testing and play active role in QA, release cycles, and post-launch maintenance
  
  

What You BringRequiredShopify App Development Experience

• 1-3 years of experience specifically in Shopify app development
• Hands-on experience building or contributing to Shopify apps in production
• Strong understanding of the Shopify ecosystem, merchant workflows, and app architecture
• Experience with Shopify Admin API, Storefront API, GraphQL, REST APIs, webhooks, and OAuth
• Familiarity with embedded app development inside Shopify admin
• Clear understanding of the difference between Shopify app development and Shopify theme/storefront development
  
  

Technical Skills

• Strong proficiency in JavaScript / TypeScript
• Good working experience with React for app frontend development
• Experience with Node.js and backend logic for app development
• Familiarity with databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, or MongoDB
• Experience building and consuming APIs
• Understanding of authentication, session handling, and secure API communication
  
  

Shopify-Specific Knowledge

• Experience working with Shopify Polaris, App Bridge, and modern Shopify app tooling
• Good understanding of webhooks, event-driven app behavior, and merchant data sync flows
• Familiarity with Shopify billing flows, app plans, and usage-based app logic
• Exposure to app extensions, Shopify Functions, checkout extensibility, or app proxy-based flows is a strong plus
• Prior experience working on third-party integrations and external system connectivity within app or SaaS products
• Ability to understand merchant needs and translate them into product features, integrations, and app workflows

• Experience integrating with payment providers, CRMs, email tools, analytics systems, external SaaS tools or other shopify apps
• Understanding of ecommerce operations, merchant pain points, and D2C workflows
• Experience working on SaaS products or product-led technology teams
• Familiarity with cloud deployment environments and background processing systems
