The Opportunity

The main role of the Test Operations team is to carry out the cell testing as required to enable the Product Ownership & Validation teams to validate their products at various points in the engineering cycle. Your role in this is to ensure that the specified tests are carried out to the highest standards, within time and budget constraints. You will also be responsible for resolving any issues encountered during testing.

Operationally, the team's role is to ensure that all equipment is well maintained, calibrated and suitable for purpose, while also exploring possibilities for improvements in test methodology or processes and experimenting and trialling new equipment to improve efficiency and accuracy.

Additionally, the Test Operations team has the opportunity to commission and run a new testing facility. Part of your role will be to support the activities in defining equipment, processes and tools for the new site along with helping to grow the team and support junior team members.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Oversee the execution of all test campaigns, ensuring rigorous adherence to the test plans, requirements, and regulatory standards.
  • Validate and document all test results, ensuring traceability to system-level requirements, performance metrics and stakeholder expectations.
  • Ensure all test activities align with business needs and relevant industry standards (e.g., UN, ISO, etc.).
  • Contribute to the strategic development of the Test Engineering function, including workforce planning, capability roadmapping, and capital investment proposals.
  • Work closely with Design, Quality, Manufacturing, and Software teams to ensure effective integration of test methodology and feedback loops.
  • Define and maintain test equipment requirements to ensure that all test infrastructure supports evolving product needs.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to manage the procurement, commissioning, and upkeep of testing facilities.
  • Implement and promote automated testing solutions where applicable to optimise repeatability and test coverage
  • Regularly communicate test results, risks, and recommendations to senior leadership and cross-functional teams.
  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective action plans for test failures, and identify areas for design or process improvements.
  • Analyse test data to identify trends in failure modes and collaborate with teams to mitigate risks early in the development process.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Extensive experience in automotive testing, engineering, systems validation, or verification roles
  • Proven experience in test engineering, validation, or verification roles, particularly in automotive, EV battery systems, or powertrain domains.
  • Hands-on experience with test planning, execution, and data analysis in a relevant engineering environment.
  • Proficiency in failure analysis techniques, including root cause analysis and corrective action development
  • Excellent interpersonal and cross-functional collaboration skills; able to influence, mentor, and lead by example within multi-disciplinary teams.

Desired

  • Familiarity with Testing Standards (eg. ISO / EN)
  • Knowledge of environmental, abuse, performance, and durability testing for EV battery systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly to diverse audiences.
