ROLE SUMMARY

We are seeking a senior Backend Architect to lead the design and delivery of AI-enabled systems across the mortgage lifecycle. This role sits at the intersection of business strategy, engineering execution, and artificial intelligence, owning end-to-end architecture for borrower-facing platforms, internal tooling, and system integrations.

You will drive adoption of AI technologies to modernize the software development lifecycle (SDLC), accelerate engineering productivity, and enhance borrower experience. The ideal candidate combines deep mortgage technology expertise with hands-on experience implementing AI-powered solutions in cloud-native environments.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Architecture & Integration

• Design scalable, secure architectures across LOS, POS, CRM, and third-party systems
• Define APIs, event-driven patterns, and data contracts
• Lead AWS-based cloud-native solution design (serverless and microservices)
• Establish integration standards, error handling, and data mapping frameworks
• Evaluate build vs. buy decisions and advise leadership

AI-Driven SDLC & Engineering Productivity

• Lead adoption of AI tools (e.g., Copilot, Claude, CodeWhisperer) to improve developer velocity
• Design AI-assisted workflows for code generation, testing, documentation, and CI/CD
• Establish governance and best practices for responsible AI usage
• Build reusable prompt libraries and internal AI tooling
• Identify opportunities to reduce technical debt and accelerate delivery

AI-Powered Borrower Experience

• Architect intelligent features such as document processing, chat interfaces, and personalized workflows
• Integrate LLM services (e.g., Bedrock, Claude APIs) into mortgage platforms
• Translate product requirements into scalable technical solutions
• Ensure compliance with mortgage regulations (RESPA, TRID, ECOA)
• Define and track KPIs (conversion, cycle time, satisfaction)

Leadership & Delivery

• Own architecture roadmap and communicate risks and trade-offs
• Lead design reviews and vendor evaluations
• Produce architecture documentation and runbooks
• Mentor engineers and support complex delivery initiatives
• Lead proof-of-concepts for emerging technologies

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• 8+ years in software architecture or senior engineering roles
• 3+ years in mortgage or financial services technology
• Experience delivering complex integrations in regulated environments
• Expertise with LOS (Encompass preferred) and POS integrations
• Strong AWS architecture experience (Lambda, API Gateway, RDS, S3, SQS, IAM, VPC)
• Experience with REST APIs, event-driven systems, and PostgreSQL
• Hands-on experience with LLM platforms (Bedrock, Claude, OpenAI)
• Knowledge of prompt engineering, RAG, and embeddings
• Ability to evaluate AI trade-offs (cost, latency, security)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• AWS Solutions Architect certification
• Experience with vector databases (pgvector, Pinecone, Weaviate)
• Familiarity with CRM platforms (e.g., Salesforce FSC)
• Experience with document AI / intelligent document processing
• Background in DevSecOps and compliance frameworks (SOC 2, ISO 27001)
