The Search & Discovery Engineering team is responsible for mission-critical systems that require exceptional reliability, performance, and operational excellence. We operate distributed platforms at massive scale and continuously push the boundaries of search infrastructure, automation, and service reliability.
Position Overview
We are looking for an experienced Senior Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to help operate and evolve a large-scale distributed search platform.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex reliability challenges, improving operational efficiency, and building automation that enables highly available, high-performance systems. You will work closely with software engineers, product teams, and quality assurance specialists to ensure exceptional service reliability and customer experience.
Key Responsibilities
Production Platform Engineering
- Participate in the design, deployment, and onboarding of new production environments, covering infrastructure, platform services, and operational readiness.
- Support scalable distributed systems throughout their lifecycle, from implementation to production operations.
- Contribute to system architecture decisions with a focus on reliability, performance, and operational efficiency.
Reliability & Operations
- Monitor production environments and participate in an on-call rotation.
- Respond quickly to incidents, perform troubleshooting, coordinate issue resolution, and drive root-cause analysis.
- Execute production releases and operational activities, including occasional after-hours deployments when required.
- Ensure platform stability through proactive monitoring and continuous improvement initiatives.
Automation & Tooling
- Improve operational workflows through automation and engineering best practices.
- Develop and enhance infrastructure tooling, deployment pipelines, and reliability-focused platforms.
- Identify opportunities to reduce manual effort and increase operational efficiency through scripting and automation.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Software Engineering, Product Management, and QA teams to define testing requirements and operational standards.
- Design and execute performance, resilience, security, and disaster-recovery testing initiatives.
- Contribute to platform readiness reviews, fire-drill exercises, and capacity planning activities.
Required Qualifications
Experience
- 8+ years of professional experience in information technology, software infrastructure, or site reliability engineering.
- Strong background in troubleshooting and solving complex system-level issues.
- Proven experience working within collaborative engineering teams.
Infrastructure & Platform Knowledge
- Deep knowledge of Linux operating systems, system administration, performance tuning, and reliability engineering.
- Hands-on experience analyzing and optimizing distributed systems.
- Experience implementing and managing configuration management platforms such as Ansible, Chef, or equivalent tools.
- Experience operating and maintaining services built using Java-based technologies.
- Strong understanding of networking fundamentals and common internet protocols.
Observability & Operations
- Experience working with modern observability platforms such as:
- Prometheus
- Grafana
- Loki
- Similar monitoring and logging solutions
Containers & Automation
- Hands-on experience with containerization and orchestration technologies, particularly Kubernetes.
- Strong scripting and automation skills using Shell, Python, or similar languages.
- Experience building operational tooling and automated reliability solutions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience designing automated software deployment and testing workflows using platforms such as Jenkins.
- Hands-on experience with distributed data technologies including:
- Apache Spark
- Apache Solr
- Apache Cassandra
- Apache Kafka
- Experience working with cloud storage platforms and object storage technologies such as:
- Ceph
- Amazon S3
- MinIO
- Familiarity with Git-based development workflows and version control best practices.
- Software development experience in production environments.
