Job Description: Senior Staff Nurse – OPD/IPD & OT Support

Role Summary

We need an experienced nurse to lead patient care in OPD/IPD and take charge of scrub/circulating roles for Gynaecology and general surgeries in OT. You’ll handle complex cases independently, mentor junior staff, and ensure protocols are followed to NABH standards. This role is for someone who can step in, take ownership, and keep things calm when it gets busy.

Key Responsibilities

1. Advanced OPD & IPD Management

- Independently manage OPD patient flow, triage, and pre-consult preparation for Gynae and Surgery OPD.

- Handle high-acuity IPD patients, monitor post-op cases, recognize early deterioration, and escalate appropriately.

- Supervise medication administration, IV therapy, central lines, and complex wound management.

- Coordinate with consultants for rounds, treatment plans, and discharge planning.

- Lead patient/family counseling for surgical procedures, consent, and post-discharge care.

2. OT Leadership – Gynae & General Surgery

- Act as scrub nurse and circulating nurse for major Gynaecology procedures like TAH, LSCS, hysteroscopy, laparoscopy, and general surgeries including hernia, appendectomy, cholecystectomy.

- Ensure instrument sets are complete, sterilized, and ready. Maintain instrument accountability.

- Support surgeons and anaesthetists during critical phases. Anticipate needs and maintain asepsis.

- Handle emergency OT cases and obstetric emergencies with minimal supervision.

- Mentor junior nurses and OT technicians on scrubbing technique, safety checks, and WHO surgical checklist.

3. Quality, Compliance & Team Support

- Ensure strict adherence to infection control, biomedical waste, and NABH protocols.

- Maintain OT/ward records, incident reports, and participate in audits.

- Train and supervise junior nurses, interns, and nursing students during postings.

- Identify gaps in processes and propose improvements to reduce errors and improve patient flow.

Required Qualifications & Skills

- Education: http://B.Sc Nursing / Post http://B.Sc Nursing. GNM with 5+ years relevant experience considered.

- Registration: Valid State Nursing Council registration. 

- Experience: Minimum 4 years in multi-specialty hospital with hands-on OT experience in Gynae and general surgery.

- Certifications: BLS mandatory. ACLS preferred.

- Skills:

  - Proficient in complex IV access, central lines, wound VAC, and post-op care.

  - Strong knowledge of surgical instruments, sterilization, and OT protocols.

  - Able to lead a team, delegate tasks, and handle conflicts calmly.

  - Fluent in Hindi and English. Computer literacy for EMR/documentation.
