Job Description

Position Summary


Rookwood Pottery is seeking a Senior HR Generalist to manage and strengthen the company’s core human resources functions. This position reports directly to the President and plays an important role in maintaining consistent policies, effective employee relations, and compliant HR practices across the organization.


This is a hands-on, operational role suited for an HR professional who is comfortable managing employee relations, supporting leadership through sensitive personnel matters, and improving systems over time. The Senior HR Generalist will oversee benefits administration, policy enforcement, onboarding, compliance, personnel records, and the ongoing management and improvement of the employee handbook.


Key Responsibilities


Employee Relations and Policy Enforcement


  • Serve as the primary point of contact for employee relations matters
  • Manage employee discipline, performance documentation, corrective actions, and terminations
  • Ensure company policies are applied consistently and fairly across all departments
  • Advise managers and leadership on appropriate handling of employee issues
  • Maintain clear, accurate documentation to support employment decisions


Employee Handbook and Policy Management


  • Maintain and update the employee handbook as a working operational document
  • Review and revise policies based on operational needs, employee issues, and legal guidance
  • Ensure policies are clearly written, practical, and enforceable
  • Communicate policy updates and support managers in understanding and applying them
  • Serve as the central resource for policy interpretation and application


Benefits and Insurance Administration


•                Manage employee benefits and insurance programs, including health insurance

•                Coordinate open enrollment and employee communications related to benefits

•                Work directly with insurance brokers and service providers

•                Respond to employee questions related to benefits in a timely and professional manner


Onboarding, Compliance, and HR Operations


  • Oversee onboarding processes for new hires, including required documentation and orientation
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations
  • Maintain accurate employee records and HR documentation
  • Support audits, reporting requirements, and internal reviews as needed


Personnel Records and Documentation


  • Maintain complete, accurate, and confidential personnel files for all employees
  • Ensure documentation standards are met for performance management, discipline, and employment actions
  • Manage record retention in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements


Training and Development Support


  • Support employee development through structured onboarding and policy-related training
  • Assist managers with performance documentation and tracking related to employee development
  • Identify training needs tied to compliance, safety, and operational requirements


HR Systems and Process Improvement


  • Maintain and improve HR systems and workflows to support efficiency, accuracy, and compliance
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen HR processes and internal controls
  • Ensure HR practices support consistent application of company policies


Qualifications


  • 3 - 7 years of experience in a human resources generalist role
  • Experience handling employee relations, discipline, and terminations
  • Experience maintaining or contributing to an employee handbook
  • Experience supporting or administering employee benefits and insurance programs
  • Manufacturing, operations, or similarly structured work environment experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of employment laws and HR compliance requirements
  • Strong judgment, discretion, and communication skills


Compensation


  • $70,000 – $85,000 base salary, depending on experience
