This role requires expertise in distributed systems, advanced data modelling, and optimisation of pipelines for petabyte-scale workloads. The individual will ensure resilient, secure, and cost-efficient solutions that enable advanced analytics and machine learning across the organisation. What You Will Do Architect and manage complex data ecosystems using GCP services (BigQuery, GCS, Dataflow, Dataproc, Composer, Pub/Sub, Cloud Functions, Cloud SQL, KMS). Design advanced ETL/ELT frameworks for ingesting data from hundreds of sources, including unstructured data. Implement robust data governance frameworks covering lineage, cataloguing, and compliance with GDPR/CCPA. Optimise pipelines for extreme scale (billions of records daily) with performance tuning and cost control. Lead cross-functional teams to build platforms supporting AI/ML models and predictive analytics. Automate orchestration and monitoring using Airflow/Composer with advanced DAG design and fault-tolerant recovery. Apply DevOps practices for data engineering, including CI/CD, infrastructure as code (Terraform), and automated testing. Mentor junior engineers and establish best practices for coding standards, documentation, and peer reviews. Who You Are 8+ years of data engineering experience, with at least 5 years on GCP. Expert-level proficiency in Python, Spark, and SQL with strong query optimisation skills. Deep knowledge of distributed systems (Spark/Hadoop) and streaming platforms (Kafka, Pub/Sub). Advanced data modelling for analytics, OLAP, and machine learning pipelines. Hands-on experience with security and compliance: IAM, VPC, encryption, and audit logging. Proven track record of building enterprise-scale data platforms (multi-region, high availability). Strong background in cost optimisation for cloud workloads, including BigQuery partitioning and clustering strategies. Not a Perfect Fit? Concerned you may not meet every requirement?
