This role involves developing sophisticated control and estimation algorithms for high-precision, multi-axis stabilized platforms and advanced sensing systems. The selected candidate will contribute to the design and implementation of core control and navigation capabilities across multiple programs, including solutions that support reliable operation in GPS-denied or GNSS-challenged environments. Key Responsibilities Design, analyze, and implement advanced control algorithms (PID, LQR, MPC, Kalman filtering, etc.) for high-accuracy stabilized platforms. Develop mathematical models of system dynamics, including sensors, actuators, and environmental disturbances. Integrate platform control systems with a broader GPS-denied navigation framework, incorporating optical and inertial sensing modalities. Develop and maintain simulation environments for algorithm prototyping, validation, and performance assessment. Support hardware-in-the-loop (HIL), laboratory, and field testing to refine system behavior and control performance. Assist in deploying algorithms onto real-time embedded platforms, ensuring adherence to timing, stability, and performance requirements. Required Qualifications Candidates must meet one of the following educational or experience pathways : Master?s or PhD in Control Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Robotics, Applied Mathematics, or a related field; OR Bachelor?s degree in a relevant field accompanied by extensive industry experience in high-precision control systems, stabilized platforms, or advanced navigation technologies. Additional requirements include: Strong theoretical foundation in linear and nonlinear control, state estimation, and dynamic system modeling. Proficiency with MATLAB/Simulink or equivalent analysis and simulation tools. Demonstrated experience with inertial sensors, precision actuators, and real-time control system development. Proven ability to model, analyze, and optimize complex physical systems. Preferred Qualifications Experience with GPS-denied navigation, perception-driven navigation, or advanced sensor fusion. Familiarity with EKF/UKF/particle filtering or similar advanced estimation methods. Exposure to optical sensing systems or image-guided control loops. Background in systems achieving arc-second-level pointing or stabilization accuracy. Experience with embedded systems, real-time operating environments, and algorithm deployment in C/C++ or similar languages. Professional Competencies Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving capabilities. Demonstrated ability to collaborate within multidisciplinary engineering teams. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to operate effectively in a research-driven, iterative development environment. Why Join Altair? At Altair, we are advancing frontier technologies through a portfolio of cutting-edge R&D initiatives spanning advanced sensing, precision control, autonomy, and GPS-denied navigation. Our teams are developing next-generation capabilities for diverse platforms?including helicopters, unmanned and uncrewed aerial systems (UAS/UDA), and other high-performance airborne and ground-based systems. Working at the intersection of mathematics, physics, and intelligent systems engineering, Altair is shaping breakthrough solutions for challenging operational environments. We are now expanding our technical team to support multiple ongoing programs across this rapidly evolving domain.
