Job Description

At pmtbox (“Payment Box”), we’re building a fintech platform that helps businesses manage their payments-related risk, fraud, card declines, chargebacks, and related processes intelligently. We’re a VC-backed fintech with a small team, over 1,000 active clients, and big ambitions. We're growing quickly and are building a team of high-ownership operators who care deeply about doing great work.

As we scale, we’re looking for a Senior Accountant who wants to do more than just close the books. This role is for someone who enjoys digging into the numbers, building better processes, and helping create the financial infrastructure that supports a high-growth company.

The Mission of this Role

Ensure pmtbox’s financial records are accurate, timely, and scalable by owning reconciliations, financial reporting support, and accounting operations while continuously improving the processes that support a growing fintech organization.

What You’ll Own

Month-End Close Excellence

Own and execute assigned components of the monthly close process with 100% reconciliation accuracy and no unresolved balance discrepancies.
Reduce close cycle time.

Financial Data Integrity

Maintain clean, accurate accounting records across all assigned accounts with documented reconciliations completed monthly.
Identify and resolve discrepancies proactively before reporting deadlines.

Scalable Reporting

Produce timely and reliable financial reporting support for leadership and finance (monthly financial packages, variance analysis, and supporting schedules).
Improve at least 3 reporting workflows or models to increase accuracy, clarity, or speed.

Process Improvement

Identify and implement 3–5 accounting process improvements (automation, documentation, controls, or workflow improvements).
Build repeatable documentation for accounting processes to support scale.

Systems & Data Capability

Become proficient in the company’s accounting systems (e.g., NetSuite / Intacct) and internal financial workflows within 90 days.
Improve at least 2 data workflows in Excel or SQL that enhance financial visibility or reduce manual work.

Operational Ownership

Strong ownership of accounting responsibilities with minimal oversight, proactively solving problems and escalating risks early.

Process Builder: You enjoy improving workflows, documentation, and systems that make accounting more efficient and scalable.
Hands-On Execution: You’re comfortable getting into the details—reconciliations, spreadsheets, and transactional accounting—while also thinking about better ways to do the work.
Systems & Data Fluency: You’re strong in Excel or Google Sheets, comfortable learning ERP systems quickly, and interested in leveraging data to improve visibility.
Self-Starter: You don’t wait to be told what to do. You identify work that needs to be done and move.

Ideal Background

5–10 years of accounting experience
Experience in startup or high-growth environments preferred
Experience with ERP systems such as NetSuite or Intacct
Strong Excel and financial data analysis skills
Nice to have: SQL or data analytics experience
Nice to have: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
