Job Description

Our Client in Southern Africa is recruiting a Resident Engineer who will oversee engineering operations at the mine site, ensuring safe, efficient, and sustainable extraction processes. This role requires strong technical expertise, leadership, and the ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams to achieve production targets while maintaining compliance with mining regulations and environmental standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operational OversightSupervise and manage engineering activities across mining operations, including mechanical, electrical, and civil works.
  • Ensure optimal performance of mining equipment, plant, and infrastructure.
  • Monitor and evaluate production processes to maximize efficiency and minimize downtime.
  • Safety & ComplianceEnforce adherence to health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards.
  • Conduct regular inspections and risk assessments to identify hazards and implement corrective measures.
  • Ensure compliance with local mining laws, regulations, and company policies.
  • Maintenance & ReliabilityDevelop and implement preventive maintenance schedules for mining equipment and plant facilities.
  • Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis for technical failures.
  • Coordinate with OEMs and contractors for specialized repairs and upgrades.
  • Project ManagementPlan and execute engineering projects (e.g., plant expansions, infrastructure upgrades).
  • Manage budgets, timelines, and resources for engineering initiatives.
  • Prepare technical reports and documentation for management and regulatory authorities.
  • Team LeadershipLead, mentor, and develop engineering staff and technical teams.
  • Foster collaboration between operations, geology, metallurgy, and environmental departments.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives and innovation in mining practices.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 8–10 years' experience in mining operations, with at least 5 years in a supervisory/management role.
  • Strong knowledge of gold mining processes, plant operations, and heavy mining equipment.
  • Proven track record in project management and maintenance planning.
  • reporting frameworks (an advantage).
  • Strong analytical, communication, and technical reporting skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams in a fast‑paced mining environment.
