🧬 We're Hiring: Research Associates (2 Positions) – Genomics & Spatial Omics | IIT Madras


The Sudha Gopalakrishnan Brain Centre (SGBC), IIT Madras is inviting applications for two Research Associate (RA) positions to join our Genomics and Spatial Omics team.

If you're passionate about genomics, single-cell biology, spatial omics, and neuroscience, this is an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research and large-scale human brain mapping initiatives alongside an interdisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and clinicians.


🔬 Position 1: Research Associate – Wet Lab (Genomics & Spatial Omics)

Key Responsibilities

  • Human/animal tissue handling and processing
  • RNA extraction, quality control, and nucleic acid preparation
  • NGS library preparation
  • Single-cell and spatial transcriptomics workflows
  • Workflow optimization, troubleshooting, and laboratory management
  • Presenting research updates, preparing technical reports, and contributing to publications

Eligibility

  • M.Sc./M.Tech./M.S. in Biological Sciences, Biotechnology, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Neuroscience, or a related discipline
  • Strong academic record

Required Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of hands-on experience in genomics or molecular biology wet-lab research
  • Experience in one or more of the following:
  • RNA isolation and quality control
  • Gene expression analysis (qRT-PCR, ddPCR, etc.)
  • RNA sequencing workflows
  • RNA ISH/FISH
  • Microarray or hybridization-based assays

Preferred

  • Experience with NGS library preparation
  • Bulk, single-cell, or spatial RNA-seq
  • Prior experience in an academic research laboratory



💻 Position 2: Research Associate – Bioinformatics & Computational Genomics

Key Responsibilities

  • End-to-end analysis of large-scale NGS datasets
  • Whole-genome, single-cell, and spatial transcriptomics data analysis
  • Development of scalable bioinformatics pipelines
  • Statistical analysis and workflow optimization
  • Collaboration with wet-lab scientists
  • Technical reporting and contribution to research publications

Eligibility

  • M.Sc./M.Tech./M.S. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Biological Data Science, or a related discipline
  • Strong academic record

Required Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of hands-on experience in NGS data analysis
  • Strong proficiency in:
  • Linux/Unix command line
  • Bash scripting
  • High Performance Computing (HPC)
  • R and/or Python
  • Familiarity with Nextflow or Snakemake
  • Experience with Conda, Docker, or Singularity

Preferred

  • Bulk, single-cell, or spatial RNA-seq analysis
  • Pipeline development
  • AI/ML applications in genomics
  • Academic research experience
