Job Description
Research Assistant II/III – CuSTOM Accelerator at Centre for Stem Cell and Organoid Medicine
What if you could work alongside a multidisciplinary team of scientists, clinicians, surgeons, engineers, and entrepreneurs united by a shared goal of accelerating discovery and translating organoid technology from bench-to-bedside?
At CuSTOM Accelerator, we operate at the intersection of academia and industry to develop organoid-based platforms that bridge preclinical and clinical research. Our work is advancing personalized medicine, improving patient outcomes, and redefining how drug discovery is performed with laboratory automation, high-throughput workflows, and AI-driven analytics playing a vital role.
We are looking for a curious and adaptable scientist or engineer who is eager to work across disciplines and contribute to shaping the future of automated organoid research.
What You Will Do
This is a lab-based role focused on integrating laboratory automation and data-driven analytics into organoid research workflows. You will work with existing automated systems while contributing to the design and implementation of new scalable processes.
- Develop and maintain scripts for processing imaging data and other structured datasets
- Operate and maintain automation platforms including robotic arms, liquid handlers, and high-content imaging systems.
- Translate manual experimental processes into scalable, reproducible automated workflows
- Design and implement protocols for high-throughput organoid generation and monitoring
- Troubleshoot automation systems, workflows, and experimental challenges
This role involves close collaboration with project investigators, key industry partners, and a multidisciplinary team to ensure successful project execution.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering, bioengineering, biology, or a related field
- Ability to learn quickly, work independently, and adapt in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment
- Experience with programming, scripting, or automation software (e.g., scheduler tools, instrument control software)
- Candidates should demonstrate strong aptitude to quickly gain proficiency in working with automation systems.
- Research Assistant II: Bachelor’s degree with relevant academic training or limited hands-on experience in instrumentation, image/signal processing, or data analytics
- Research Assistant III: Bachelor’s degree with relevant academic training or Master’s degree with experience in automation, bioengineering, or related fields
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with laboratory automation platforms (e.g., liquid handlers, robotics, high-content confocal microscopy systems)
- Experience translating manual laboratory workflows into automated processes
- Experience with stem cell culture or 3D biology
- Familiarity with advanced AI methods for image processing, segmentation, classification, and validation
- Familiarity with multimodal analyses with various formats of datasets
