Job purpose

Responsible for originating, reporting, and producing digital-first stories and text stories, including generating original ideas and newsgathering. Scripting ready to be published and presenting content on air across platforms is must. Based in Lucknow

Key responsibilities and accountabilities

  • Pitch, Research, Script and Report interesting and well-explained digital video stories, explainers live updates and analytical pieces meeting high journalistic standards and fully observing the BBC editorial guidelines.
  • Identify and respond rapidly to breaking news, delivering accurate on spot video reports, live hits across digital platforms.
  • Lead with video-first storytelling, using the most effective formats for each platform (Long & short-form video, vertical video, lives, interviews, explainers), with a strong focus on social and mobile audiences.
  • Generate a steady pipeline of digital-ready story ideas for the news diary, working closely with video producers, editors, and other reporters to plan, execute, and optimise coverage.
  • Provide regular advice on news developments, guidance on agency or newspaper stories and briefings on government policies.
  • Gather original content reflecting the diversity of audiences we serve and enhances storytelling for both website & video platforms.
  • Deliver timely, specialist reporting and analysis in formats that maximise reach, engagement, and impact, while maintaining accuracy and editorial balance.
  • Maintain regular and clear communication with the Editors & Planning team.
  • Work efficiently under tight deadlines, balancing speed with accuracy and upholding the highest editorial, ethical, and safety standards.



Requirements

Knowledge, skills, training and experience

  • Experience of at least 8 – 12 years of reporting experience within the state with strong written and spoken Hindi is essential.
  • The candidate must also be proficient in written and spoken English.
  • The suitable candidate must demonstrate a strong understanding of both Indian and global audiences, enabling them to pitch and develop compelling story ideas that resonate widely.
  • Proven Experience of live broadcasting including live breaking news and ability to communicate effectively to target audience. Along with proven experience of new writing and packaged video content is a must.
  • Proven experience of having contacts across the state of Uttar Pradesh including political parties, government functionaries and advocacy groups.
  • Demonstrates balanced and impartial judgement. Makes appropriate editorial decisions, taking account of conflicting views where necessary.
  • A demonstrable interest in new media which will include proven knowledge of how to maximise a story for digital, reporting experience and proven skills in generating original newsgathering.
  • Work in partnership with other reporters and producers.
