Job Description
Job Title: Quality Chemist – Color Cosmetics
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Quality Chemist specializing in color cosmetics to ensure product quality, consistency, and compliance across all stages of manufacturing. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience in testing and evaluating products such as lipsticks, foundations, and other color cosmetic formulations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Product Quality Testing
- Perform comprehensive quality testing of color cosmetic products including lipsticks, foundations, mascaras, and pressed powders
- Evaluate physical, chemical, and sensory properties to ensure product consistency and performance
2. Stability Testing
- Conduct stability studies including:
- Thermal stability
- UV exposure testing
- Accelerated aging studies
- Analyze results to predict product shelf life and recommend formulation or packaging improvements
3. Pigment Dispersion & Color Matching
- Assess and optimize pigment dispersion for uniformity and performance
- Perform color matching and shade development using spectrophotometry techniques
- Ensure batch-to-batch color consistency
4. Analytical Testing
- Conduct routine and advanced testing including:
- Viscosity measurement
- pH analysis
- Emulsion stability evaluation
- Maintain and calibrate laboratory instruments
5. Batch Release & Troubleshooting
- Perform batch release testing in accordance with internal specifications and quality standards
- Investigate out-of-specification (OOS) results and implement corrective actions
- Support production teams in troubleshooting formulation or processing issues
6. Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with international cosmetic regulations including EU and FDA standards
- Maintain proper documentation aligned with GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices)
- Assist in audits and regulatory inspections
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemistry, Cosmetic Science, or related field
- Proven experience in color cosmetics quality control/assurance
- Strong knowledge of emulsions, pigments, and formulation science
Key Skills
- Expertise in spectrophotometry and color science
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Attention to detail and documentation accuracy
- Familiarity with GMP, ISO standards, and regulatory guidelines
- Effective communication and cross-functional collaboration
Preferred Experience
- Hands-on experience in a color cosmetics manufacturing environment
- Exposure to new product development (NPD) support
- Knowledge of raw material specifications and supplier quality evaluation
