QA Engineer

We’re looking for a hands-on QA Engineer to join our growing engineering team at Tern. This is not a typical QA role, you will be our first dedicated QA hire, owning quality end-to-end and laying the foundation for how QA scales across the company.

You’ll work across web, mobile, and APIs, combining manual, exploratory, and automation testing to ensure we ship fast without compromising quality.

• Lead manual and exploratory testing to ensure high-quality releases
• Design and build automation frameworks from scratch where needed
• Develop and maintain automated test suites across:
• Web (Playwright / Cypress)
• Mobile (Detox / Maestro)
• APIs (Postman / Newman / Pytest)
• Define test strategies, acceptance criteria, and quality standards with engineering and product teams
• Run regression, integration, and smoke testing for releases
• Own the bug lifecycle — from identification to resolution
• Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines for continuous testing
• Establish QA processes, tooling, and best practices as Tern scales

• 5+ years of QA experience across manual + automation testing
• Strong experience with Playwright or Cypress
• Experience with mobile automation tools (Detox or Maestro)
• Experience with API testing (Postman/Newman or Pytest)
• Proficiency in Python for automation
• Strong JavaScript skills for test scripting
• Ability to operate independently and take full ownership
• Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking
• Clear communicator who can work cross-functionally
  

• ISTQB (or similar certification)
• Experience in fintech, payments, or loyalty platforms
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins)
