About the Airtel App and this role
The Airtel App is the front door to Airtel for over 130+ million customers a month. Prepaid and postpaid recharges, DTH, Wi-Fi and broadband, UPI, Payments Bank, FASTag, utility bills, personal loans, credit cards, insurance, OTT entitlements, rewards. It is one of the largest consumer apps in India by transactions and intent.
We are now embedding AI agents inside the App. Agents that help a customer choose the right plan, finish a broken transaction, resolve an issue without leaving the screen, discover a service they didn't know they needed, and act on their behalf where the rules allow. The agent surface sits alongside the App's existing transactional flows and is rapidly becoming a primary way customers get things done.
A Product Manager – AI Agents (App) at Airtel owns a piece of this. You will build agents that ship to tens of millions of users, move real funnel numbers, and become a permanent part of how India's largest digital ecosystem serves its customers.
What this role demands
You are a growth product manager built in e-commerce. The App is a high-velocity, transaction-led environment that runs on the same instincts as the best Indian e-commerce products: funnels, conversion, retention, ARPU, frequency, basket expansion, re-engagement. You think in cohorts and ship in experiments. You know that a 2% lift on a top-of-funnel step is millions of customers a month, and you ship for that lift relentlessly. You have done this at scale, in India.
You are sharp on the numbers. You read App dashboards before you read your email. You know the funnel from open to action by heart. You can debate a CAC, an LTV, a contribution margin, a unit economic, a propensity score with the analytics and finance team and hold your ground. When the agent's metric moves, you know within an hour whether it's signal or noise.
You are a hustler. You don't wait for perfect data or a clean problem statement. You find the next 1% of growth in places others have stopped looking. You will run five experiments this month, kill three, double down on one, and start the next five. The App rewards speed, and you bring it.
What you'll do
- Own an agent surface in the App end to end. Pick the intent cluster (recharge, billing, plan discovery, troubleshooting, payments, financial services, retention saves), design the agent, ship it into production, and own its metrics.
- Move App funnel numbers. Drive measurable lift on the metrics the App is held to: MAU, transacting users, transaction frequency, ARPU, recharge success rate, plan upgrade conversion, financial services attach, retention. Your agent earns its place by moving them.
- Run experiments. Stand up evals before launch, A/B in production, iterate weekly. The App ships fast. Your agent ships at the same speed or it falls behind.
- Decide what the agent does and never does. Scope autonomy, design fallbacks, build guardrails, ensure AI safety and responsible AI practices for a regulated consumer environment with payments, lending, and banking exposure.
- Hold agent economics at App scale. Cost per resolved task, token economics, model routing between small and large models, infra cost as a share of revenue lift. The math has to work at 130M+ MAU.
- Lead cross-functional execution. Partner with App engineering, design, data science, growth, contact centre, Payments Bank, Finance, DTH, Broadband, brand, and compliance. You are the connective tissue across a wide stack.
What you bring
- Indian e-commerce scale. You have shipped consumer or e-commerce products to tens of millions of users in India, on a high-traffic, transaction-led app. You know how Indian customers think, transact, drop off, return, and tell their friends. You have the scars and the wins.
- Shipped consumer products at scale. You have shipped real consumer products to millions of users. Production systems with telemetry, experimentation, and a clear line from your work to a moved business metric. AI or ML shipping experience strongly preferred.
- Growth instinct. You have driven growth, conversion, or retention metrics on a high-traffic consumer product. You think in cohorts, funnels, and experiments. You know how to find the lift.
- Numbers fluency. You are sharp on metrics, comfortable in dashboards, and able to model unit economics. You can write a SQL query if you have to, and you don't need someone to translate a funnel chart for you.
- Technical fluency in AI. You can hold your own in a technical conversation about agent architecture, large language models, retrieval augmented generation (RAG), function calling, prompt engineering, evaluation design, or model selection. You don't need to be an engineer. You do need real opinions.
- Speed and bias to ship. You move fast, ship weekly, and kill what isn't working without ego. The App rewards tempo. You bring it.
- Crisp written communication. PRDs, eval plans, experiment readouts, leadership updates. Short, structured, decisive.
We are hiring for Associate Product Manager (2+ years) through Principal Product Manager (12-15+ years). The bar above stays constant. Scope, complexity, and the size of the bets you make scale with experience.
What good looks like at 12 months
Your agent is live in the App, serving millions of customers a week. It has moved a funnel metric the business cares about, by a number you can defend. The leadership team reviews your agent's scorecard alongside the App's growth dashboard. Other App PMs are borrowing your patterns: how you designed intents, how you ran evals, how you priced the model, how you handled fallback to human care. You are one of the people writing the playbook for what an AI-native Airtel App looks like, and the work you ship in year one becomes the foundation for the decade ahead.
