Intelsat Inflight is hiring! We’re looking for a Principal Software Engineer (Portal) to join our high‑performance engineering team in Chennai. This role is ideal for a strong technical leader who loves solving real engineering challenges while still staying hands-on in design, coding, and architecture.

About the Role

As a Principal Software Engineer, you will play a key role in driving Portal software design, team productivity, technical excellence, and predictable delivery. You’ll collaborate with Product, Architecture, Development, and QE teams to ensure high-quality delivery that scales.

This is a hands-on leadership role where you guide the team while also contributing directly to development, solution design, and architectural alignment.

What You’ll Do

• Lead team-level design, development, and delivery using Agile methodologies
• Drive backlog refinement, feature grooming, and PI planning
• Provide hands-on coding, debugging, and architectural support
• Improve engineering practices, code quality, and effective use of AI tools
• Partner with architects to ensure alignment with platform standards
• Strengthen collaboration between Development & QE for seamless feature delivery
• Mentor engineers and foster continuous improvement
• Ensure performance, reliability, observability, and operational readiness
• Manage risks, cross-team dependencies, and technical issues proactively

Key Skills & Experience

✔ 12+ years in software engineering, with 2–4 years in a tech lead/principal role

✔ Strong hands-on experience with Java / Spring Boot / Go / Node.js

✔ Experience with AWS (EC2, SQS, SNS, Lambda, S3, Aurora, DynamoDB)

✔ Familiarity with NGINX, RabbitMQ, REST APIs, microservices

✔ Good to have: React.js or modern UI frameworks

✔ Strong understanding of CI/CD, DevOps, TDD, observability, and monitoring

✔ Excellent communication, analytical thinking, and problem‑solving skills

✔ Passion for coaching teams and improving engineering maturity
