Job Description:
We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Healthcare Architect with extensive expertise in healthcare interoperability, enterprise architecture, cloud modernization, and digital health transformation. The ideal candidate will lead the design and implementation of enterprise-scale healthcare platforms, enabling seamless interoperability across provider, payer, pharmacy, and digital health ecosystems.
The role requires deep experience in EHR integrations, healthcare interoperability standards, cloud-native architectures, API-first development, and enterprise modernization initiatives. The architect will collaborate with business stakeholders, engineering teams, healthcare organizations, and executive leadership to deliver scalable, secure, and compliant healthcare technology solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead enterprise architecture strategy for large-scale healthcare modernization and digital transformation initiatives.
- Design scalable interoperability solutions supporting providers, payers, pharmacies, and healthcare technology partners.
- Architect cloud-native, API-first healthcare platforms using modern microservices and distributed system architectures.
- Define enterprise interoperability frameworks leveraging HL7v2, FHIR R4, SMART on FHIR, CDS Hooks, X12 EDI, and NCPDP SCRIPT standards.
- Design and implement secure RESTful APIs for healthcare data exchange and clinical workflow automation.
- Lead modernization of legacy healthcare systems into cloud-native, scalable, and resilient architectures.
- Develop canonical healthcare data models to standardize enterprise-wide data exchange.
- Architect enterprise integration solutions supporting real-time clinical and administrative workflows.
- Drive API governance, security, versioning, and integration best practices across enterprise healthcare platforms.
- Design multi-tenant SaaS healthcare solutions ensuring scalability, performance, security, and compliance.
- Lead healthcare integration strategies across EHR/EMR platforms including Epic, Cerner, athenahealth, Meditech, McKesson, and PointClickCare.
- Architect Prior Authorization (PA) and Electronic Prior Authorization (ePA) workflows supporting payer-provider connectivity.
- Collaborate with product management, engineering, clinical, compliance, and business stakeholders to define technical roadmaps.
- Provide technical leadership for enterprise modernization initiatives utilizing Microsoft Azure cloud technologies.
- Establish architecture standards, design principles, reusable integration patterns, and governance frameworks.
- Evaluate emerging healthcare technologies, interoperability standards, and digital health innovations.
- Mentor engineering teams, solution architects, and technical leaders on enterprise architecture and healthcare integration best practices.
- Ensure healthcare solutions comply with regulatory, security, privacy, and interoperability requirements.
- Drive continuous improvements in healthcare data exchange reliability, scalability, performance, and operational efficiency.
- Explore and implement AI-assisted interoperability capabilities including intelligent workflow automation, terminology normalization, data mapping, and integration acceleration.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Healthcare Informatics, Engineering, or related discipline.
- 30+ years of enterprise software architecture and healthcare technology experience.
- Extensive experience designing enterprise healthcare interoperability platforms.
- Deep understanding of healthcare interoperability standards including HL7, FHIR, SMART on FHIR, CDS Hooks, X12, and NCPDP.
- Strong expertise in Microsoft Azure cloud architecture and modernization strategies.
- Hands-on experience with .NET and ASP.NET Core development.
- Proven experience designing microservices, distributed systems, and enterprise integration solutions.
- Extensive knowledge of healthcare workflows across providers, payers, and pharmacies.
- Experience integrating with major EHR/EMR platforms.
- Strong leadership, stakeholder management, and enterprise architecture governance experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience leading enterprise modernization initiatives within large healthcare organizations.
- Knowledge of Healthcare AI, Generative AI, and intelligent automation technologies.
- Experience with healthcare platform transformation and cloud migration strategies.
- Familiarity with DevSecOps, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, and cloud governance.
- Healthcare interoperability certifications or cloud architecture certifications are a plus.
