Principal Engineer - ITS

Job Description

Responsibilities Lead the design, specification, and integration of ITS central systems such as ATMS, central traffic control, tunnel control/ SCADA, and regional command centres. Provide technical authority on central system architecture, data exchange frameworks, cyber security, and IT infrastructure requirements. Oversee the development of functional requirements, system design documents, and interface specifications for ITS central systems. Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams (civil, electrical, ICT, systems engineering) to ensure seamless integration of field ITS devices with central platforms. Conduct system-level feasibility studies, risk assessments, and technology evaluations, shaping the strategic direction of projects. Provide leadership in control centre design (room layouts, operator ergonomics, server/network requirements, SCADA, and system redundancies). Engage with clients, authorities, and technology vendors to ensure alignment with international best practice and regional authority requirements. Mentor and guide junior engineers, helping to build a strong pipeline of future ITS systems specialists. Stay ahead of global advancements in ITS, ICT, and control centre technologies, bringing innovative solutions into WSP projects. Qualifications A degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, Transportation Engineering or IT-related discipline. 10+ years of experience in ITS central systems design, ideally with exposure to ATMSs, central traffic management systems, and large-scale control centre projects. Strong technical expertise in network architecture, databases, cyber security, SCADA systems, and ITS central software platforms. Proven ability to develop functional specifications, interface control documents, and system integration plans. Demonstrated experience in control centre design (operator consoles, video walls, IT/server infrastructure). Excellent client-facing skills with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly. A track record of mentoring and technical leadership within multidisciplinary project teams. Strong awareness of international ITS standards and best practices (e.g., AASHTO, EN, NFPA 502).
