As a Principal Backend Engineer, you will design and optimize the core systems that power real-time messaging at massive scale, working on socket management, encryption protocols, and distributed databases to ensure speed, reliability, and scalability.

Key Responsibilities:

• Scale the Platform: Build and maintain a real-time messaging engine supporting millions of users.
• API Development: Design and build secure, high-performance APIs for mobile and web applications.
• System Architecture: Design distributed systems for large-scale concurrent messaging.
• Performance Optimization: Improve network throughput and perform OS-level optimizations (memory, file descriptors).
• Data & Security: Optimize databases for fast message retrieval and implement secure cryptographic protocols.
• Reliability & Monitoring: Deploy and monitor microservices to ensure 99.999% uptime.

Tech Stack

• Languages: Java, Python, or Golang (strong multi-threading experience preferred)
• Infrastructure: Distributed systems in Linux environments
• Databases: MySQL/PostgreSQL, NoSQL (MongoDB, HBase/BigTable), Redis
• DevOps & Monitoring: Docker, Kubernetes, Prometheus, Grafana

Requirements

• 10+ years of backend engineering experience building scalable systems.
• Strong knowledge of Data Structures, Algorithms, and Operating Systems.
• Understanding of network protocols (TCP/UDP, TLS, DNS).
• Experience with high-performance distributed systems.

Nice to Have

• Experience with WebSockets or MQTT.
• Contributions to open-source projects.
