Power BI Administrator / Developer

Job Description

The Power BI Developer & Administrator is a technical expert responsible for building, optimizing, and maintaining Power BI reporting solutions and infrastructure. This role works closely with data engineers and business analysts to design enterprise-grade data models, write optimized SQL queries, manage Power BI Service workspaces, and ensure secure, high-performing dashboards. This is a hands-on technical role requiring deep experience in Power BI architecture, DAX, SQL, and data modeling along with knowledge of Azure SQL and ADF pipelines. Essential Duties And Responsibilities Power BI Development: Create visually compelling and user-friendly dashboards, paginated reports, and semantic models using Power BI Desktop and Service. Data Modeling & DAX: Develop DAX measures, calculated columns, and reusable data models that follow best practices and support scalability. Environment Administration: Manage Power BI workspaces, datasets, gateways, refresh schedules, and enforce governance policies. Security: Configure and maintain row-level security (RLS) to protect sensitive data. SQL Development: Write and tune SQL queries, views, and stored procedures in Azure SQL to optimize reporting performance. Performance Monitoring: Monitor dataset refresh performance, troubleshoot failures, and recommend optimizations. Collaboration: Work closely with business users, analysts, and data engineers to ensure data pipelines deliver accurate, ready-to-use information. Training & Support: Provide self-service analytics enablement by mentoring power users and documenting data models and report usage. Qualifications Bachelor?s degree in Data Analytics, Computer Science, or related field. 4?6+ years of hands-on experience in Power BI development and administration. Proven experience managing Power BI in an enterprise environment (workspace governance, security, performance tuning). Strong background in SQL development and experience with Azure SQL/Synapse Expert-level knowledge of DAX and Power Query (M language). Strong understanding of data modeling (star schema, snowflake schema, surrogate keys, SCDs). Proficiency with Power BI Service features: deployment pipelines, incremental refresh, composite models. Skilled in query optimization and performance tuning for large datasets. Familiarity with Power BI REST API, PowerShell scripting, and CI/CD pipelines. Nice to Have: Experience with Power Apps and Power Automate for extended automation and workflows. Excellent documentation and communication skills.
