Ocean/Air EXIM Specialist

Sidecar is building AI agents that automate freight forwarding operations — RFQ handling, rate responses, carrier coordination, and more. We're looking for someone who's lived the pain of airfreight and ocean freight ops to help us build products that actually work.

This isn't an ops management role. You'll sit alongside our AI and engineering team as the person who knows how the work really gets done — annotating real email workflows, guiding engineers on domain logic, and catching the edge cases that only someone with hands-on experience would spot.

What you'll do

• Annotate and label freight forwarding emails, RFQs, and operational documents to train our AI models
• Guide engineers and product managers on how airfreight and ocean freight workflows actually function — from rate requests to booking confirmations to documentation
• Review AI-generated outputs (draft replies, rate quotes, carrier selections) and flag where they miss the mark
• Translate industry-specific logic — incoterms, surcharge structures, carrier routing, customs nuances — into rules our system can follow
• Identify gaps between how freight forwarding works in practice vs. how our product handles it
• Help design features that forwarders will actually adopt

What we're looking for

• 4–5 years of hands-on experience in freight forwarding operations and/or pricing
• Deep familiarity with both airfreight and ocean freight workflows
• You've personally handled RFQs, rate negotiations, booking confirmations, shipping documentation, and carrier coordination
• You understand the legacy systems, the manual processes, and where things break
• Strong written communication — you can explain operational logic clearly to a technical audience
• Comfort working in a fast-moving startup environment alongside engineers and AI researchers

Nice to have

• Experience with freight TMS platforms (CargoWise, Magaya, or similar)
• Familiarity with customs clearance and compliance documentation
• Previous exposure to AI/ML products or data annotation work
