Company Description Tamana is a non-profit voluntary organization established in 1984 to provide rehabilitative services for individuals with intellectual disabilities, multiple disabilities, and those on the autism spectrum. Recognized for its impact in the disability sector, Tamana was granted Special Consultative Status by the United Nations Economic and Social Council in 2005. The organization runs three centers in Vasant Vihar, New Delhi, serving over 200 differently abled children, young adults, and adults, many from economically weaker sections. Through individualized education programs, in-house diagnostics, and a multidisciplinary team, Tamana focuses on social and economic inclusion. Its services integrate special education, therapeutic interventions, vocational training, counseling, and academic support via NIOS to help learners achieve maximum independence.
Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Occupational Therapist role based in New Delhi at Tamana’s centers in Vasant Vihar. The Occupational Therapist will assess the functional, sensory, and motor needs of differently abled children and young adults, including those with autism, cerebral palsy, and multiple disabilities. The role involves designing and implementing individualized therapy plans, conducting one-on-one and small-group sessions, and using evidence-based interventions to improve daily living skills, fine and gross motor skills, sensory integration, and school or vocational participation. The Occupational Therapist will collaborate closely with special educators, other therapists, vocational trainers, and families to align therapeutic goals with educational and vocational programs. Daily responsibilities include maintaining accurate documentation, contributing to multidisciplinary reviews, guiding caregivers in home-based strategies, and participating in training or awareness activities organized by the NGO.
Qualifications
- Candidates should possess strong skills in Occupational Therapy, including assessment, intervention planning, and implementation for children, adolescents, and adults with diverse disabilities.
- Candidates should possess effective Communication skills for working with learners, families, and multidisciplinary teams, including clear documentation and counselling.
- Candidates should possess experience or training in Pediatrics, particularly in developmental and neurodevelopmental conditions such as autism and cerebral palsy.
- Recognized degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited institution; registration with relevant professional council or authority, as applicable.
- Experience in special education, disability rehabilitation or community-based rehabilitation settings is preferred.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment and demonstrate empathy, patience, and cultural sensitivity.
- Basic proficiency in local languages (e.g., Hindi) and English to communicate effectively with students and families.
