Morning Edition Host & Part-Time Reporter (Local Government & Community News)
WJFF Radio Catskill
Job Description
Radio Catskill
Radio Catskill is looking for an experienced, community-minded journalist to join our local news team as a Morning Edition host and part-time reporter with a focus on local government and community news in Delaware County.
We’re a small, collaborative newsroom serving the Catskills and Northeast Pennsylvania, where local stories matter and public service journalism comes first. We’re looking for someone who brings curiosity, clarity, and a conversational on-air presence.
What You’ll Do
You’ll be the local voice listeners wake up to—hosting Morning Edition cut-ins and anchoring morning newscasts two days a week. Beyond delivering headlines, you’ll help make sense of what’s happening across our region, connecting listeners to the issues shaping their communities.
This is a part-time reporting role with a primary focus on local government, covering government issues and initiatives across our listening area with a particular focus in Delaware County and some reporting in neighboring areas as assigned. You’ll produce spot news, features, and interviews for broadcast and digital platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Host local cut-ins during Morning Edition and anchor morning newscasts twice weekly (exact days TBA)
- Report and produce stories on local government and accountability, including policy, budgets, and outcomes
- Write clear, engaging broadcast copy under deadline
- Conduct live and recorded interviews
- Develop sources across local government
- Contribute digital stories to our website
- Assist with breaking news and special coverage as needed
- Participate in station events and fundraising efforts
What We're Looking For
- Experience in public radio or broadcast journalism, including hosting and reporting
- Strong writing and audio production skills
- Comfort with live on-air work and interviewing
- Understanding of journalistic ethics and best practices
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a small newsroom
- Interest in government reporting and its impact on rural communities
- Familiarity with the Catskills region is a plus
About the Role
This is a part-time position (25 hours per week, $22 per hour) based in our coverage area, with early morning hours required for hosting duties at our Roxbury or Liberty studios. Additional flexibility for reporting assignments, including occasional evenings or weekends, is expected.
