Module Mounting Structure (MMS) & Single Axis Tracker – Procurement Expert

Department: Procurement / Supply Chain Management

Reporting To: Head – Procurement / Project Director

Location: Chennai / Ahmedabad (with project & vendor travel)

Industry: Renewable Energy – Solar EPC & Utility-Scale Projects

Role Overview

The MMS & Single Axis Tracker Procurement Expert will be responsible for end-to-end procurement of Module Mounting Structures (fixed-tilt) and Single Axis Tracker systems for large-scale solar projects. The role requires strong technical understanding of MMS and tracker systems, combined with commercial acumen to ensure cost-effective, timely, and compliant procurement aligned with project requirements.

This position plays a critical role in vendor evaluation, techno-commercial negotiations, contract finalization, and coordination with design, projects, and quality teams.

Key Responsibilities

1. Procurement & Vendor Management

Lead procurement of MMS (fixed-tilt) and Single Axis Tracker systems for utility-scale and commercial solar projects.
Identify, evaluate, empanel, and manage domestic and international MMS/tracker vendors.
Float RFQs/RFPs, evaluate techno-commercial offers, and recommend suitable vendors.
Conduct commercial negotiations to achieve optimal pricing, delivery timelines, and contractual terms.

2. Technical Coordination & Evaluation

Coordinate closely with Design (Civil/Mechanical), Projects, and QA/QC teams to finalize technical specifications.
Review vendor drawings, BOMs, datasheets, and compliance to design requirements.
Ensure compatibility of MMS/tracker systems with site conditions, soil data, wind loads, and project layouts.
Support tracker-specific requirements such as row spacing, actuator systems, control units, and stow strategies.

3. Contracting & Compliance

Finalize purchase orders and contracts aligned with approved technical and commercial terms.
Ensure compliance with IS/IEC standards, client specifications, and project quality requirements.
Incorporate warranty, performance guarantees, liquidated damages, and after-sales support clauses.

4. Cost Optimization & Value Engineering

Drive cost optimization through benchmarking, alternate vendor development, and value engineering initiatives.
Track steel prices, logistics costs, and market trends impacting MMS/tracker procurement.
Support standardization of MMS/tracker specifications across projects to improve economies of scale.

5. Project Support & Execution Coordination

Monitor vendor manufacturing schedules, inspections, and delivery timelines.
Coordinate FAT, inspections, and dispatch clearances with QA/QC teams.
Resolve procurement-related issues during execution, installation, and commissioning stages.

6. Stakeholder & MIS Management

Maintain procurement MIS, vendor performance records, and contract documentation.
Provide regular updates to management on procurement status, risks, and mitigation plans.
Act as a single point of contact for MMS/tracker vendors.

Qualifications & Experience

Education: B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical / Civil Engineering (MBA – Supply Chain preferred).
Experience: 6–12 years of experience in procurement of MMS and/or Single Axis Tracker systems for solar EPC or IPP projects.
Proven exposure to utility-scale solar projects (50 MW+ preferred).

Skills & Competencies

Strong technical understanding of fixed-tilt MMS and single axis tracker systems.
Expertise in techno-commercial evaluations and negotiations.
Knowledge of steel structures, corrosion protection, galvanization, and tracker components.
Strong coordination, vendor management, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work in fast-paced, project-driven environments.

Tools & Systems

MS Excel, ERP/SAP (Procurement modules), AutoCAD (basic understanding), MS Office.
Familiarity with tracker OEM documentation and technical submittals.
