Job Title Options - Manager / Senior Manager – Distribution Operations
Location: Mumbai
Department: Distribution Operations
Experience: 8–15 Years
Qualification: B.E./ B.Tech – Electrical Engineering
Role Purpose
To act as the primary interface and manage end-to-end distribution field operations, ensuring timely execution, technical compliance, safety & quality and service quality across activities such as network operations & maintenance, meter operations, consumer service orders, field investigations, technology & system utilisation, and disconnection/reconnection processes and any other operations activity.
Key Responsibilities
1. Network Operations & Maintenance
Supervise vendor teams executing distribution network operations and maintenance activities, including:
Preventive Maintenance
- Routine network inspection
- Thermal imaging checks
- Preventive maintenance of distribution assets
- Load monitoring and system health checks.
Breakdown Maintenance
- Response and resolution of network breakdowns
- Fault location and restoration coordination
- Emergency response management.
Network Improvement
- Identify network bottlenecks
- Recommend network improvement proposals
- Support load balancing and reliability improvement initiatives.
2. Vendor Operations Management
- Monitor vendor performance against defined SLAs and operational KPIs.
- Manage vendor teams responsible for field activities across distribution areas.
- Ensure timely execution of work orders through vendors. Field activities include but not limited to:
› Meter replacement and shifting
› Bulk meter shifting programs
› Meter investigation and site investigation
› Meter reading verification
› NIC installation (SIM + optical communication setup)
› Joint Meter Reading (JMR / RJMR)
› Dunning meter handling processes
› Disconnection and reconnection activities.
› Any other activities as required
3. Operational Planning & Execution
Workforce Coordination & Supervision for vendor workforce deployed for field operations and ensure proper task allocation, supervision, safety compliance, and productivity management across all field teams.
- Coordinate daily work order allocation and completion across vendor teams.
- Track field productivity and work completion rates.
- Monitor backlog and ensure closure within defined timelines.
4. Technical Governance
- Ensure compliance with utility standards, electrical safety norms, and regulatory requirements.
- Provide technical guidance on:
- Metering systems
- Consumer service processes
- Investigation of faulty or tampered meters
5. Process Compliance & Quality Control
- Conduct field audits and quality checks of vendor work.
- Ensure correct entries in the application / documentation of:
- Meter replacements
- Joint meter readings
- Disconnection/reconnection records
6. Consumer Service & Complaint Resolution
Oversee consumer-side operational processes including:
- Consumer complaint resolution
- Site inspection and investigation
- Service connection issues
- Meter and supply related complaints.
Ensure timely response and closure within defined service levels.
7. New Installations & Field Implementation
- Supervise installation of new meters and service connections.
- Ensure correct technical practices during installation.
- Validate field documentation and compliance.
8. Technology & System Utilization
Ensure field teams effectively use digital tools for operations management, including:
- Mobile applications for work order management
- Tablets used by field teams
- Utility operational systems
- Thermal imaging cameras for preventive maintenance
- Meter communication devices (NIC, SIM, optical interfaces).
- Promote digital adoption and accurate field data capture.
9. Compliance, Safety & Quality Control
- Ensure strict adherence to electrical safety standards and regulatory guidelines.
- Conduct field audits and vendor quality checks.
- Verify documentation of:
- Meter replacement
- Joint meter readings
- Disconnection / reconnection records.
10. Performance Monitoring & Reporting
- Track operational KPIs such as:
- Vendor productivity
- Work order completion time
- Consumer complaint resolution.
- Prepare reports for management on field operations performance and improvement initiatives.
Candidate Profile
Mandatory
- B.E./ B.Tech Electrical Engineering
- 8–15 years’ experience in electricity distribution operations
Preferred Experience
- Metering operations
- Vendor managed field operations
- Smart metering / AMI projects
- Consumer service processes
Key Competencies
- Power distribution systems knowledge
