We're looking for an exceptional Machine Learning Engineer (Core Modelling) who understands machine learning from first principles and can independently lead complex modelling initiatives. This is one of our most strategic technical hires, with the opportunity to shape our ML capability, influence technical direction, and solve challenging real-world problems.

About the Role

This is a core machine learning role—not a Prompt Engineering or RAG engineering position.

We use LLMs, retrieval, and GenAI where they add value, but our focus is on building, training, evaluating, and deploying robust machine learning models. We're looking for someone who understands modelling deeply rather than simply orchestrating existing AI services.

What You'll Do

• Own ML problems end-to-end—from problem framing to production deployment.
• Build and optimize classical ML, probabilistic, time-series, and deep learning models based on the business problem.
• Design robust feature engineering pipelines and prevent data leakage through sound validation practices.
• Select meaningful evaluation metrics and validate models using rigorous experimental methods.
• Deploy, monitor, and improve production models with retraining and drift monitoring.
• Use GenAI where it genuinely improves the solution—not as a substitute for modelling.
• Communicate modelling decisions clearly and contribute to the technical direction of our ML practice.

What We're Looking For

You should have:

• Strong foundations in machine learning, statistics, probability, and model evaluation.
• Hands-on experience building and evaluating production ML models with measurable business impact.
• Excellent Python skills with scikit-learn and PyTorch and/or TensorFlow, along with strong SQL and data engineering fundamentals.
• Experience with techniques such as feature engineering, cross-validation, regularization, handling class imbalance, calibration, and leakage prevention.
• Practical knowledge of algorithms including tree ensembles (XGBoost, LightGBM, CatBoost), deep learning (CNNs, LSTMs, Transformers), probabilistic models, and time-series forecasting.
• Strong analytical thinking, experimental discipline, and the confidence to defend modelling decisions with evidence.

Nice to Have

Experience with any of the following is a plus:

• Bayesian and probabilistic modelling
• Advanced forecasting systems
• LoRA, PEFT, or full model fine-tuning
• Production MLOps, drift detection, CI/CD, and automated retraining
• Applied GenAI alongside traditional ML
• Kaggle competitions, open-source ML contributions, or research publications

What This Role Isn't

To ensure we're the right fit for each other, this role is not focused on:

• Prompt Engineering
• RAG pipeline development
• LangChain, LangGraph, CrewAI, or AI agent orchestration as the primary skill
• Building applications around third-party LLM APIs without training or evaluating machine learning models

These are valuable skills, but this position is focused on core modelling expertise. Candidates with stronger Applied GenAI profiles may be better suited to other AI roles within INDPRO.
