Legal Counsel

Nature Morte, originally founded in New York in 1982 and later revived as a gallery in New Delhi in 1997, is a leader in the contemporary art scene in India. Renowned for championing conceptual, lens-based, and installation art, the gallery represents both established and emerging Indian artists who have gained international recognition. With two exhibition spaces in New Delhi and a new permanent gallery in Mumbai, Nature Morte fosters artistic innovation while introducing international works to Indian audiences. Co-directed by Aparajita Jain and Peter Nagy, the gallery has a legacy of operating in multiple locations globally and continues to push boundaries in the art world.

This is a full-time, on-site role for a Legal Counsel based in South Delhi. The Legal Counsel will be responsible for drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts, providing legal advice to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and addressing legal issues that arise in the course of the gallery’s operations. Additionally, the role involves preparing legal documentation, managing risk, liaising with external legal advisors, and supporting the leadership team on legal and regulatory matters related to the gallery's activities.

• Proficiency in Law and expertise in handling Legal Issues
• Strong skills in Contract Negotiation and providing sound Legal Advice
• Experience in preparing and reviewing Legal Documents
• Understanding of compliance processes and risk management within the art or cultural sectors is preferred
• Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• Proven ability to work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced environment
• Bachelor’s degree in Law or equivalent; licensure to practice law preferred
