Location: Naraina, Delhi Industry: Defense Technology | UAVs | Autonomous Systems Seniority: Lead / Principal Engineer A leading innovation-first defense technology organization is seeking a Lead R&D Engineer ? Drone Systems to spearhead the research, design, and production of advanced unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). This is a high-impact leadership role that directly contributes to strengthening national defense capabilities through cutting-edge indigenous technology. Role Overview The Lead R&D Engineer ? Drone Systems will oversee the end-to-end lifecycle of UAV development?from concept and design to system integration, prototyping, testing, production, and deployment. The role requires deep technical expertise, hands-on engineering capability, and proven leadership within a fast-paced R&D environment. Key Responsibilities Lead multidisciplinary R&D teams in design, prototyping, manufacturing, and integration of next-generation UAV platforms (rotary and fixed-wing). Direct the full UAV lifecycle: concept design, flight software development, system integration, testing, production, deployment, and technical support. Develop innovative hardware and software solutions focusing on: Autonomous control systems Sensor fusion Critical communications Payload integration Build and optimize production pipelines, manufacturing processes, and quality assurance systems for scalable UAV production. Ensure rigorous documentation and compliance with DRDO guidelines, defense standards, safety norms, and cybersecurity protocols. Collaborate cross-functionally on pre-sales engineering support, client demonstrations, tender documentation, and partner engagements. Mentor and guide engineering teams, fostering a high-tech, innovation-driven, and agile culture. Must-Have Technical Expertise Extensive experience in UAV/drone R&D and production?both rotary and fixed-wing systems. Deep knowledge of electronics, embedded systems, aerodynamics, flight control software, communication systems, and mechanical design. Expertise with simulation tools, modeling platforms, and rapid prototyping. Experience working with safety-critical systems and integrating hardware/software for autonomous systems. Familiarity with global UAV standards and Indian defense procurement processes. Proven ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams in a high-intensity R&D or manufacturing environment. Qualifications B.Tech/B.E. in Aerospace Engineering, Electronics, Mechatronics, Robotics, or related fields (M.Tech/M.E. preferred). 8+ years of experience in UAV/drone R&D or production, with at least 3 years in technical or team leadership roles. Demonstrated success in delivering sophisticated UAV projects from concept to deployment (defense or industrial). Certifications (PMP, Six Sigma) and patents/publications are added advantages.
