Lead Backend Engineer with AI systems

About the Role

We are looking for a highly skilled Senior Python Developer who is strong in core Python programming, backend development, scripting, and has hands-on exposure to basic AI/ML model integration. The ideal candidate should be capable of building scalable backend services, automation pipelines, APIs, and integrating lightweight AI functionalities into real-world products.

This role requires someone practical, fast-moving, and comfortable working across backend systems, scripting tasks, and AI-enabled workflows.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop scalable backend applications and APIs using Python
• Build automation scripts, data processing pipelines, and utility tools
• Design and maintain REST APIs and backend services
• Work with databases and optimize backend performance
• Integrate basic AI/ML models into applications and workflows
• Handle deployment, debugging, logging, and monitoring of backend systems
• Collaborate with frontend, AI, and DevOps teams for product delivery
• Write clean, modular, and production-ready code
• Work on integrations with third-party APIs and cloud services
• Optimize existing systems for speed, scalability, and reliability

Required Skills

Core Python

• Strong understanding of Python fundamentals
• Experience with scripting and automation
• OOPs concepts, modular coding, error handling
• Multithreading / multiprocessing basics
• Strong debugging and optimization skills

Backend Developement

• Experience with frameworks like:
• FastAPI
• Flask
• Django (optional but preferred)
• REST API development
• Authentication & authorization basics
• WebSockets/basic async handling understanding
• Microservices understanding preferred

Database and Infrastructure

• PostgreSQL / MySQL
• MongoDB basics
• Redis basics preferred
• Docker basics
• Linux command-line proficiency
• Git/GitHub workflow understanding

AI/ML Exposure

• Basic understanding of AI/ML workflows
• Experience using:
• Hugging Face
• OpenAI APIs
• LangChain (preferred)
• Basic NLP/LLM integrations
• Understanding of embeddings, inference APIs, or lightweight model deployment is a plus

Preferred Qualification

• Experience building AI-enabled backend systems
• Exposure to cloud platforms such as:
• AWS
• Azure
• GCP
• Knowledge of queues/workers like Celery or RabbitMQ
• Familiarity with vector databases is a plus
• Startup experience preferred
