About the Role
The role involves managing day-to-day laboratory operations, including planning, scheduling, and execution of testing activities. The individual will coordinate with customers and internal teams, ensure efficient utilization of lab resources, and drive timely completion of test programs.
Responsibilities
- Test Activity Management: Plan, schedule, and monitor all testing activities to ensure timely execution and optimal utilization of resources.
- Customer Coordination & Communication: Manage test slot bookings, provide status updates, and handle customer queries, clarifications, and escalations.
- Program & SRF Management: Review and approve SRFs, ensure proper sample tracking, and monitor execution of test programs as per requirements.
- Internal Coordination: Coordinate with operations, delivery, finance, and sales teams to ensure smooth execution and alignment of test programs.
- Maintenance Management: Plan and oversee preventive and breakdown maintenance; coordinate with AMC/service teams to ensure minimal downtime.
- Quality Management: Implement and monitor quality objectives, ensure compliance with standards (ISO/IEC), and maintain overall lab quality systems.
- Non-Conformance Handling: Identify, document, and manage non-conforming work; perform root cause analysis and implement CAPA.
- Calibration Management: Plan and ensure timely calibration of all equipment and instruments; maintain records and traceability.
- Resource & Shift Management: Allocate manpower, manage shifts, and ensure availability of skilled resources for uninterrupted operations.
- Test Report Management: Review, verify, and approve test reports ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with requirements.
- Technical Oversight: Provide guidance on test setup, execution, troubleshooting, and ensure correct data recording and interpretation.
- Performance & Training: Identify training needs, evaluate team performance, and ensure competency development.
- Data & Documentation Management: Ensure proper maintenance of records, logbooks, utilization data, and audit readiness.
- Safety & Compliance: Ensure adherence to safety protocols, proper handling of equipment, and safe working conditions in the lab.
- Customer Satisfaction & Issue Resolution: Address customer complaints, minimize delays, and ensure timely delivery of services.
- Continuous Improvement: Drive initiatives to improve efficiency, reduce downtime, and enhance quality and productivity.
Qualifications
- Experience: 5–8 years of experience in testing laboratories / quality / environmental testing, with exposure to lab operations and team management.
- Educational Qualification: Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field.
Required Skills
- Leadership & Team Management: Strong ability to manage teams, allocate resources, and drive performance.
- Technical Knowledge: Good understanding of testing standards, lab operations, and quality systems (ISO/IEC 17025 preferred).
- Quality & Compliance: Knowledge of quality assurance principles, calibration practices, and non-conformance handling.
- Planning & Coordination: Strong skills in scheduling, program management, and cross functional coordination.
- Customer Handling: Ability to communicate with customers, manage expectations, and handle escalations.
- Maintenance Awareness: Basic understanding of equipment maintenance, AMC coordination, and troubleshooting.
- Computer Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office, ERP systems, and lab data management tools.
- Data & Documentation: Strong capability in report review, documentation control, and record management.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
- Logistics & Resource Management: Capability to manage sample flow, test scheduling, and lab resource utilization.
- Communication Skills: Good interpersonal and communication skills for internal and external coordination.
- Languages: English (mandatory), Tamil (mandatory), Hindi (preferred).
Preferred Skills
- Permanent Opportunity: Preference for candidates with same domain experience.
- Office location: Maraimalai Nagar, Chengalpattu.
- Reporting manager: Lab Head.
- Joining: Immediate.
Pay range and compensation package
- Salary (During Probation): ₹50,000 per month.
- Post-Confirmation Salary: ₹60,000 per month (20% increase upon successful completion of probation and performance evaluation).
- Salary Revision (Experienced Candidates): Minimum 20% hike on current CTC, based on interview performance and evaluation.
- Probation Period: 6 months (subject to extension based on performance, if required).
