Job Title: Head/ Senior Manager - Purchase

Industry: Disposable Serviceware & Food Packaging

Location: Mumbai

Salary Range: ₹25-35 Lakh per annum

Reporting To: Managing Director

Team: Purchase Executives / Coordinators

Preferred Industry Background : E-Commerce or Modern Trade .

Role Objective

The Head/ Senior Manager - Purchase will lead strategic sourcing, category management and end-to-end procurement to ensure zero sales loss due to material non-availability. This role drives cost reduction, freight and logistics optimization, inventory efficiency (working capital and SKU rationalization), supplier performance and risk mitigation across multi-location warehouses. Key focus areas include demand forecasting, contract negotiation, vendor development, ERP-driven procurement, and procurement analytics to support business growth.

Key Result Areas (KRAs) & Responsibilities

KRA 1: Zero Sales Loss Due To Material Non-Availability

Ensure 100% availability of fast-moving and critical SKUs across 12 Distribution Centres in Maharashtra & Goa and the Master Warehouse at Vapi.
Implement forecasting, reorder levels, and replenishment planning for approximately 2,000 SKUs using demand-planning and MRP principles.
Track stock-outs daily and eliminate repeat occurrences through root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
Coordinate with Sales, Warehousing, and Logistics teams to align supply plans and promotions.

KPI: Sales loss due to non-availability = Zero

KRA 2: Inward Freight Cost Reduction

Reduce inward freight costs at the Master Warehouse and sub-depots through carrier negotiation and mode optimization.
Negotiate freight terms with vendors and transporters and implement load consolidation, optimized routing and shipment frequency.
Optimize load planning, shipment frequency, and routing using TMS/analytics.
Track freight cost per unit and cost-to-serve metrics.

KPI: Percentage reduction in inward freight cost year-on-year

KRA 3: Material Cost Reduction

Achieve cost savings through strategic sourcing, vendor negotiations, category management and development of alternate suppliers.
Reduce dependency on single-source vendors and implement dual-sourcing where feasible.
Finalize annual and quarterly rate contracts, manage RFQ/RFP processes and oversee contract management.

KPI: Annual purchase cost savings achieved

KRA 4: Inventory Reduction & Optimization

Reduce overall inventory without impacting service levels by implementing VMI, JIT procurement and optimizing MOQs and lead times.
Improve inventory turnover, SKU rationalization and working capital efficiency through data-driven policies.
Implement KPIs such as days of inventory, turns and fill rate.

KPI: Inventory value reduction and improved inventory turns

KRA 5: Reduction of Obsolete & Excess Inventory

Identify and reduce slow-moving, obsolete, and excess inventory through targeted liquidation, promotions and SKU delisting.
Drive clearance and SKU rationalization initiatives and implement tighter buying controls to prevent future obsolescence.

KPI: Reduction in obsolete and excess inventory value

Vendor Management

Manage approximately 125 vendors and maintain supplier scorecards and SLAs.
Conduct periodic vendor performance reviews, audits and capability development.
Develop strategic supplier partnerships and ensure backup vendors for critical SKUs.

Systems, MIS & Controls

Maintain procurement data in ERP systems and implement procurement controls and approval workflows.
Publish monthly MIS on cost savings, freight, inventory, and vendor performance using Excel, BI tools and ERP reports.
Ensure compliance with internal controls and audit requirements.

Qualification & Experience

Graduate or Postgraduate in Supply Chain, Materials Management, Operations, Business Administration or a related field. Professional certifications (CIPS, CPM, CSCP, or equivalent) and Lean Six Sigma are a plus.
15- 20 years of procurement and supply chain experience with progressive responsibility, preferably in packaging, FMCG, e-commerce, distribution or modern trade.
Proven experience handling a large SKU base, multi-location warehouses, demand forecasting and strategic sourcing.
