Role Overview

We’re looking for a Head of Design to own and elevate the entire design function at YourStory. This is not just a team management role. It’s about defining how YourStory looks, feels, and scales across:

• Brand
• Editorial
• Product
• Social
• Events
• Campaigns
  
  

You will build systems. Raise the bar. Remove chaos. And create a design language that’s consistent, scalable, and unmistakably YourStory.

What You’ll Own

Design Vision

• Define and articulate the design strategy for the organization
• Build a unified visual system across platforms
• Lead brand refresh and long-term design system initiatives
• Ensure craft quality across digital, print, product, and motion
  
  

Team & Design Operations

• Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary design team
• Set up clear workflows, SLAs, and request management systems
• Build templates, toolkits, and scalable processes
• Create a culture of ownership, taste, and learning
  
  

Cross-Functional Impact

• Partner with editorial, product, marketing, video, and business teams
• Translate business objectives into a sharp creative direction
• Balance speed and quality in a high-velocity content environment
• Bring clarity where there’s ambiguity
  
  

Quality & Consistency

• Be the final bar for brand alignment and craft
• Maintain visual consistency across all touchpoints
• Eliminate ad-hoc design chaos with structure and systems
  
  

What We Are Looking For

• 6-8 years of experience in design
• 4+ years in digital (web, social, emerging formats)
• Bachelor’s degree in Art, Graphic Design, Product or related fields
• Strong portfolio covering branding, digital design, social media, and product
• Ability to convert abstract ideas into clear visual directions and a strong grasp of design, copy, and web best practices
• Experience building design systems and structuring design processes
• Ability to work in a fast-moving environment with multiple stakeholders
• Strong understanding of storytelling, typography, layouts, and visual hierarchy
  
  

Nice to Have

• Experience in media or consumer internet
• Motion design, illustration, or creative strategy exposure
• Proven track record of scaling design teams
