Job Description

ROLE SUMMARY


The Head of Credit is the enterprise custodian of credit risk and asset quality for Muthoot FinCorp Limited, providing strategic leadership over the end-to-end credit risk management framework across all lending verticals. Managing a diversified portfolio with an AUM of approximately ₹50,000 crore, the role is accountable for designing and enforcing robust credit policies and procedures, portfolio diversification frameworks, and risk mitigation strategies that protect asset quality while enabling profitable and sustainable growth.


As the guardian of asset quality and the architect of credit-led growth at scale, the Head of Credit plays a pivotal role in balancing risk discipline with business agility. The role requires a strong technology orientation, leveraging digital credit platforms, advanced analytics, and AI-driven decisioning to enhance underwriting quality, scalability, and speed, while ensuring governance, regulatory compliance, and resilience across economic cycles.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


Credit Strategy & Policy

▪ Develop and implement enterprise-wide credit risk policies aligned with regulatory guidelines (RBI, SEBI, etc.). ▪ Establish sector-specific credit frameworks for diverse verticals (Retail, SME, Corporate, Infrastructure, Housing Finance, Vehicle Finance, etc.).

▪ Oversee underwriting standards, scorecards, rating models, and collateral valuation frameworks ▪ Drive innovation in credit assessment models, leveraging data analytics, AI/ML, and alternative credit scoring.

▪ Ensure disciplined credit appraisal, sanctioning, and documentation processes


Portfolio Quality & Risk Monitoring

▪ Monitor portfolio quality across verticals, ensuring NPA levels remain within acceptable thresholds.

▪ Design early warning systems and stress-testing mechanisms for macroeconomic and sectoral risks

. ▪ Oversee credit risk appetite and exposure limits across geographies and business lines.

▪ Partner with collections, legal, and recovery teams to improve resolution outcomes


Leadership & Governance

▪ Lead a team of credit risk professionals across verticals, fostering a culture of accountability and performance.

▪ Collaborate with the Board, Audit Committee, and Risk Committee to present credit risk reports and portfolio insights.

▪ Ensure compliance with internal controls, regulatory requirements, and external audits


Operational Excellence

▪ Streamline credit approval processes to balance speed with risk prudence.

▪ Implement digital credit platforms for faster decision-making and improved customer experience.

▪ Drive automation in underwriting, monitoring, and collections Stakeholder Management

▪ Work closely with business heads to align credit policies with growth objectives.

▪ Engage with regulators, rating agencies, and investors to build confidence in the NBFC’s credit practices.

▪ Represent the NBFC in industry forums and policy discussions on credit risk.

▪ Enterprise Scope: Pan-India responsibility across multiple lending verticals and customer segments

▪ Portfolio Complexity: Secured and unsecured products, short- and long-tenure loans, retail to large-ticket exposures

▪ Decision Authority: Credit policy ownership, approval authority as per delegated powers, final escalation authority

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

▪ Education: CA/MBA/FRM/CFA or equivalent in Finance, Risk Management, or related fields.

▪ Experience: 15+ years in credit risk management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role in a large NBFC/Bank.

▪ Proven track record of managing multi-vertical credit portfolios exceeding ₹50,000 crore.

▪ Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks, capital adequacy norms, and risk-based pricing
