Head Librarian in a french Library

Role Description The Head Librarian will lead the French Library at Alliance Française de Delhi, overseeing all aspects of library operations and services. This full-time, on-site role is based in South Delhi and includes managing collections, supervising cataloguing and metadata practices, and ensuring accurate classification and organization of materials. The Head Librarian will guide library staff, coordinate user services such as circulation, reference, and digital access, and develop policies that support effective library management. Responsibilities include planning and delivering library instruction sessions for students and members, promoting information literacy, and supporting French language and cultural programs through curated resources and exhibitions. The role also involves budgeting for library resources, maintaining partnerships with other libraries and cultural institutions, and continuously improving services to meet the needs of learners and the wider community. Also conducting many library guided visits either for Alliance Francaise students, also for schools teaching french language to not only conduct library visits but also organize other activities workshops , film screenings for them as per their age groups.

Qualifications

• Strong expertise in Library Science and Library Management, with the ability to oversee collection development, cataloguing, and day-to-day operations.
• Experience in Library Services, including circulation, reference, reader advisory, and digital resource access for diverse user groups.
• Also have various higher diplomas from France and other diplomas from French Embassy in Delhi.
• Knowledge of Metadata standards and cataloguing practices relevant to multilingual and multimedia collections.
• Skill in Library Instruction, information literacy training, and user education, particularly in an academic or cultural institution setting.
• Master’s degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent professional qualification.
• Experience managing a library team, with strong organizational and leadership skills.
• Proficiency in English and good working knowledge of French; advanced French language skills are highly desirable.
• Comfort with integrated library systems, digital catalogues, and basic IT tools related to library management.
• Ability to collaborate with academic and cultural program teams and to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
