This role is responsible for compiling, analyzing and reporting greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across Burns & McDonnell (BMcD) and it’s subsidiary operations. The position works closely with internal teams and suppliers to improve data quality and support Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) disclosures. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in carbon accounting and will play a critical role in shaping climate strategy and ESG reporting.

The position works closely with internal teams and suppliers to improve data quality and support Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) disclosures. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in carbon accounting and will play a critical role in shaping climate strategy and ESG reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the development and maintenance of the company’s GHG inventory, including Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 emissions, through data collection, analysis, stakeholder engagement, and reviews.
- Conduct materiality assessments to identify and prioritize climate-related risks, opportunities, and emissions sources relevant to the defined organizational reporting boundaries.
- Help apply organizational and operational boundaries for GHG reporting in accordance with the GHG Protocol and other relevant standards.
- Compile and analyze organizational waste and water data, identifying opportunities for efficiencies and improving data collection.
- Support the development and implementation of sustainability initiatives and strategies.
- Prepare and contribute to sustainability reports, ESG disclosures, CDP, and EcoVadis submissions.
- Analyze requirements from global sustainability frameworks, regulations and emerging best practices in climate and sustainability reporting, and develop actionable recommendations.
- Work closely with global teams in the U.S. and U.K. to coordinate sustainability data, align reporting approaches, and support ESG disclosures.
- Professional certification (e.g., GHG Inventory Quantifier, ISO 14064 Auditor).
- Experience with value chain engagement and supplier data collection.
- Familiarity with other reporting frameworks (e.g., SASB, GRI, ISSB, CSRD).
- Experience in corporate sustainability strategy or climate scenario modeling.Ability to balance GHG initiatives with other corporate goals.
- Familiarity with Science Based Targets Initiative.
- Familiarity with implementing greenhouse gas inventory software.
- Work closely with global teams in the U.S. and U.K. to coordinate sustainability data, align reporting approaches, and support ESG disclosures.
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in GHG inventory development.
- Proficient in GHG accounting tools and methodology (GHG Protocol).
- Strong data analysis and data management skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel, experience with sustainability or ESG reporting tools is a plus.
- Strong understanding of climate risk, carbon markets, and ESG frameworks.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills. Comfortable working in a collaborative environment with internal stakeholders, customers, suppliers, and peers.
- Experience collaborating with global teams across multiple regions and time zones is a plus.
