Job Description
The GM/Sr.GM/AVP – Purchase & Supply Chain will lead and oversee end-to-end procurement, inventory, logistics, and vendor management for the hospital network. This role ensures uninterrupted availability of medical and non-medical supplies, cost optimization, regulatory compliance, and alignment with clinical and operational requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Procurement & Supply Chain Management
- Develop and implement purchase and supply chain strategies aligned with hospital growth and patient care objectives
- Lead centralized and decentralized procurement operations across hospitals / units
- Drive cost optimization initiatives without compromising quality or patient safety
- Forecast demand in coordination with clinical, biomedical, and operations teams
Vendor & Contract Management
- Identify, evaluate, negotiate, and onboard vendors for medical consumables, implants, drugs, equipment, and services
- Establish long-term strategic partnerships with key suppliers
- Negotiate contracts, pricing, SLAs, and payment terms
- Monitor vendor performance, compliance, and risk
Inventory & Logistics Control
- Ensure optimal inventory levels to avoid stock-outs or over-stocking
- Implement inventory control systems (ABC / VED / FSN analysis)
- Oversee warehousing, logistics, and distribution across departments
- Monitor expiry management, recall handling, and traceability
Compliance & Quality Assurance
- Ensure adherence to healthcare regulations, NABH / JCI standards, and internal SOPs
- Maintain audit-ready procurement and inventory documentation
- Coordinate with quality, finance, and legal teams on compliance matters
Team Leadership & Stakeholder Collaboration
- Lead, mentor, and develop purchase and supply chain teams
- Work closely with doctors, nursing, pharmacy, biomedical, finance, and operations teams
- Drive process improvements through automation and ERP utilization
MIS, Reporting & Budgeting
- Prepare and present procurement MIS, cost analysis, and savings reports to leadership
- Manage annual procurement budgets and variance analysis
- Support financial planning and capex procurement
Key Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of hospital procurement and healthcare supply chains
- Expertise in vendor negotiation and cost management
- Hands-on experience with ERP / HIS / inventory systems
- Strong analytical, leadership, and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to work in high-pressure, patient-critical environments
Educational Qualifications
- MBA / PGDM in Supply Chain, Materials Management, Operations, or equivalent
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Pharmacy, Life Sciences, or related field preferred
Experience
- 18–24+ years of experience in purchase & supply chain
- Minimum 8–10 years in a leadership role within hospital or healthcare industry
- Experience handling multi-location hospitals or large healthcare facilities preferred
