Job Description

Frontend Software Engineer (Defense / Mission-Critical Applications)

Location: Washington, DC (On-site)

Compensation: $135,000 – $200,000 + equity

A venture-backed technology company operating at the intersection of software, data, and national security is hiring a Frontend Software Engineer to build the interfaces used in mission-critical environments.

The team develops software used by government and defense organizations to integrate, analyze, and operationalize complex data in real time. These platforms power decision-making in environments where reliability, clarity, and performance genuinely matter.

You’ll be designing and shipping data-intensive applications that help operational teams interpret massive datasets, coordinate resources, and act quickly when it matters most.

The engineers here are expected to think like product builders, not ticket-takers.

What You’ll Work On

  • Designing and building high-performance web applications used in operational environments
  • Creating intuitive interfaces for complex, data-heavy workflows
  • Working directly with end users to understand real operational needs
  • Architecting frontend systems that interact with APIs, data pipelines, and ML-driven insights
  • Shipping features end-to-end, from concept through production
  • Collaborating closely with backend engineers, designers, and product teams

The problems you’ll solve are rarely trivial.

The expectation is ownership, technical judgment, and strong product instincts.

What They’re Looking For

This role tends to resonate with engineers who enjoy hard technical problems and real-world impact.

Typical backgrounds include:

  • 2+ years of software engineering experience
  • Strong proficiency with JavaScript / TypeScript and modern frontend frameworks
  • Experience building complex web applications (not just simple CRUD apps)
  • Comfort working with data-intensive systems and APIs
  • Strong CS fundamentals
  • A track record of shipping production software

Bonus signals:

  • Experience building data visualization tools or operational dashboards
  • Experience working with government, defense, or highly regulated industries
  • Engineers who enjoy talking directly to users and shaping product direction

You’ll be surrounded by engineers who:

  • Prefer solving difficult problems over chasing hype
  • Care deeply about quality, performance, and reliability
  • Take responsibility for the software they ship

If you’re looking for a role where the frontend is treated as core engineering work, not surface-level UI, this tends to be a strong fit.

Who Should Apply

This role is best suited to engineers who:

  • Want to work on software that operates in real-world environments
  • Enjoy deep technical challenges
  • Prefer impact and ownership over comfortable predictability

If that sounds like you, feel free to apply or reach out directly for more information.
