Job Description
Role Purpose
The purpose of this role is to provide technical expertise in fastener engineering and bolted joint technologies for wind turbine applications. The role is responsible for validating fastener designs, ensuring compliance with international standards, supporting product development activities, and resolving field-related fastener issues through engineering analysis and root cause investigations. The incumbent will work closely with design, manufacturing, quality, suppliers, and site teams to improve product reliability, optimize costs through value engineering, and contribute to the development of robust and innovative fastening solutions for Suzlon's next-generation wind turbine platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform technical validation of fasteners, including strength calculations, torque analysis, preload evaluation, and failure analysis.
- Review drawings, BOMs, and technical specifications to ensure correct fastener selection and application.
- Evaluate and recommend suitable fasteners based on functional, manufacturing, and service requirements.
- Conduct technical reviews and provide solutions for fastener-related issues, including corrosion and field failures.
- Support root cause analysis (RCA) and DFMEA activities for fastener and bolted joint failures.
- Drive value engineering and cost optimization initiatives through innovative bolting technologies.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with design and quality requirements.
- Stay updated on emerging trends, technologies, and standards in fastening systems.
- Visit plants, project sites, vendors, and testing laboratories as required for technical assessments and validations.
Qualification
- B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, or Industrial Engineering
Experience
- 4–5 years of total experience (1–2 years of relevant experience in fastener engineering, validation, or related domains)
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of fastener manufacturing processes, testing methods, heat treatment, coatings, and corrosion protection.
- Understanding of torque-tension relationships, tightening methods, and bolting tools.
- Familiarity with international fastener standards such as ISO, DIN, DIN-EN, EN, VDI, and related specifications.
- Ability to perform basic bolt calculations and structural connection strength assessments.
- Knowledge of engineering materials and their behavior in bolted connections.
- Experience in analytical problem-solving, root cause analysis, and failure investigation.
- Working knowledge of CAD tools and engineering design review processes.
- Strong techno-commercial understanding and process-oriented approach.
- Effective communication, coordination, and stakeholder management skills.
