Engineering Lead | Fintech
Actively Reviewing the Applications1Fi
Job Description
Title: Engineering Lead / Senior Engineer
Location: Gurgaon (In-office)
Employment Type: Full-time
Experience: 3–6 years
About Us
1Fi is building India's next-generation affordability platform — enabling consumers to unlock credit against their mutual fund holdings as a smarter alternative to credit cards and score-based lending. Think Loan Against Securities meets BNPL: lowest cost, zero delinquency, sub-5-minute digital loan journey.
We're early, moving fast, and building real financial infrastructure — not another payments wrapper.
Work Style
This is a high-intensity, high-ownership environment. We work in-office in Gurgaon, Monday through Saturday. Hours reflect startup reality — if that's not your scene, this isn't the right fit. If you thrive with autonomy, direct access to decision-makers, and work that ships into production weekly, you'll love it here.
Role Overview
You'll be the second technical mind in the room, sitting directly below the CTO. This is an IC-heavy role with a leadership layer: you'll write production code every day, own architectural decisions, and raise the quality bar for the engineering team.
This is a 0→1 role. The codebase is young, the product is live, and the decisions you make in the next 12 months will define how 1Fi scales.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect and ship full-stack features across our consumer lending and securities platform — React/Next.js on the frontend, NestJS/Node.js on the backend
- Own the design and performance of our data layer (PostgreSQL + caching/NoSQL where appropriate)
- Make infrastructure decisions: cloud setup, Kubernetes, CI/CD, observability — and be accountable for uptime in a money-moving system
- Set and enforce code quality standards through reviews, patterns, and documentation
- Work directly with the CTO on system design, tech debt prioritization, and hiring bar
- Mentor junior engineers and interns — not just review their PRs, but help them grow
Requirements
Must-have:
- 3–6 years of hands-on full-stack experience with TypeScript, Node.js, and React/Next.js
- Strong SQL fundamentals — you've designed schemas for transactional systems, not just queried them
- Solid grasp of REST API design, auth patterns, and backend reliability
- Comfortable owning DevOps: Docker, Kubernetes, GitHub Actions, cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP/DO)
- Track record of shipping — side projects, products, or startups that reached real users
Strong plus:
- Experience in fintech, BFSI, or regulated domains (payments, lending, securities)
- Familiarity with compliance and audit considerations in financial systems
- Prior experience as a founding/early engineer at a startup
Why You Should Join Us
- Build real fintech infrastructure from scratch and learn how financial products work end-to-end
- Work directly with an experienced CTO and get hands-on exposure to system architecture and product decisions
- Accelerated learning curve in a high-ownership environment designed to make you a CTO-level technologist in the next few years
- Early team members receive ESOPs. We're transparent about the pool, vesting, and what it could be worth — ask us directly.
