Job Description

Director of People & Culture

Biscuit Belly | Louisville, KY

**REMOTE POSITIONS ARE POSSIBLE IF IN KY, TN, FL, NC, SC OR GA**

Position Overview

Biscuit Belly is a fast-growing, Southern-inspired breakfast brand built on bold flavors, real hospitality, and a whole lot of heart. We believe great food starts with great people. And we’re ready to build the infrastructure that supports both.

We’re hiring our first Director of People & Culture - a builder who will design and scale the people systems that help us grow without losing what makes us special.

You will build the HR foundation that supports our next chapter while preserving our culture. This is not a maintenance role. It’s a challenging (and rewarding) build-from-zero opportunity.

What You’ll Own

Build the Foundation

  • Design and implement scalable HR systems across restaurant and corporate teams
  • Scale the “family-like” culture and trust that we currently have with our small organization
  • Develop policies, modify handbooks, and ensure compliance across multiple states
  • Create structure without unnecessary bureaucracy
  • Establish clear employee lifecycle processes (hire → onboard → develop → retain)

Talent & Hiring

  • Build consistent, values-aligned hiring systems
  • Partner with leaders to clarify roles and create scorecards (EOS-aligned)
  • Strengthen onboarding across all locations
  • Improve recruiting efficiency for hourly, management, and corporate roles

Culture & Performance

  • Serve as a steward of Biscuit Belly’s culture as we scale
  • Support leaders in performance management and accountability (Right People, Right Seats)
  • Coach leaders through difficult conversations and team development
  • Help design leadership development and succession planning efforts

Strategic Partnership and Other

  • Act as a trusted advisor to the Integrator, Visionary, and leadership team
  • Bring data, clarity, and proactive recommendations
  • Ensure HR becomes a strategic advantage, not just an administrative function
  • Will help manage HRIS, benefits and dabble in payroll

How Our Core Values Show Up in This Role

Our values aren’t wall art. They shape how we lead.

Boldly Authentic

You say what needs to be said - kindly, directly, and without hiding behind process. You build systems that are transparent and fair and model accountability at every level of the organization. You create trust across frontline teams and executives alike.

Being Boldly Authentic means you don’t avoid hard conversations, you elevate them. You protect clarity over comfort and integrity over optics.

Relentless Hospitality

Hospitality extends beyond guests, it includes our team.

You care deeply about the team member experience, balancing empathy with accountability. You help leaders create environments where people feel seen, supported, and held to high standards.

Chase Big. Keep It Fun.

We are building something meaningful and we intend to enjoy the process.

You build for growth, not maintenance. You help leaders pursue ambitious goals without creating heaviness or burnout. You celebrate wins and ensure that as we scale, we don’t lose the joy that makes Biscuit Belly special.

Who This Person Is

  • Experienced HR leader at the Director level (or equivalent)
  • Proven builder of HR systems - not just a manager of existing ones
  • Background in multi-unit, high-growth environments (restaurants/hospitality strongly preferred)
  • Deep knowledge of employment law and multi-state compliance
  • Comfortable moving between frontline teams and executive strategy
  • Calm, steady, and solutions-oriented in high-paced environments
  • Excited by growth, not overwhelmed by it

Who This Role Is Not For

This role is not for someone who:

  • Needs a fully built HR department to step into
  • Thrives in slow-moving, highly bureaucratic corporate environments
  • Prefers strategy without hands-on execution
  • Avoids ambiguity or rapid change
  • Sees HR as policy enforcement rather than culture-building

If you’re looking for rigid boundaries and narrow scope, this likely isn’t the right fit.

Qualifications

We care more about who you are and what you’ve built than where you went to school.

Experience & Background

  • 7+ years of progressive HR leadership experience, including Director-level or equivalent responsibility
  • Proven experience building or significantly improving HR systems (not just maintaining them)
  • Experience in hospitality, restaurants, retail, or multi-unit environments strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated success supporting fast-growing or scaling organizations
  • Working knowledge of multi-state employment law and compliance

A degree in HR, Business, or a related field is welcomed but not required. Relevant experience and demonstrated impact matter most.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base Salary: $110,00 - $160,000 (HIGHLY DEPENDENT ON EXPERIENCE)
  • Comprehensive benefits
  • Flexibility and autonomy
  • Significant opportunity for long-term impact and leadership growth

Final Word

We believe culture is built intentionally, not accidentally. As our Director of People & Culture, you won’t just manage HR. You’ll help define how Biscuit Belly grows : authentically, boldly, and with relentless hospitality for our people. And as we grow, we’ll do it the right way. We will chase big goals, build with ambition, and expand with confidence, all while protecting the energy, pride, and joy that make this brand special.

If you’re excited to build something meaningful, scale it thoughtfully, and keep the spirit strong along the way, we’d love to meet you.
