Director of Communications and Marketing
Actively Reviewing
The Linsly School
Job Description
Tell the Story. Shape the Brand. Inspire the Future.
Great schools are built on stories. Stories of students discovering their passions. Teachers changing lives. Alumni making a difference around the world. Families finding a community where their children are known, challenged, and inspired. At The Linsly School, those stories have been unfolding for more than 200 years.
We are seeking an exceptional communicator and creative marketer to become our next Director of Communications and Marketing. Someone who believes that authentic storytelling has the power to inspire, connect, and build community.
Reporting to the Head of School and serving as a key member of the Administrative team, this individual will lead the School's communications, marketing, and brand strategy while helping shape how prospective families, current parents, alumni, donors, faculty, students, and friends experience one of the nation's oldest and most distinguished independent schools.
This is not simply a communications position. It is an opportunity to become the steward of Linsly's story, capturing the moments that define our community, celebrating the people who make it exceptional, and sharing a vision that inspires others to join.
The ideal candidate is an outstanding writer, creative storyteller, strategic thinker, and collaborative leader who is energized by relationships, thrives in a dynamic environment, and understands that the strongest brands are built on authenticity.

What You'll Do
Tell Stories That Matter
- The most powerful stories are often found in everyday moments. You'll spend time across campus discovering the people and experiences that define a Linsly education, from classrooms and laboratories to athletic fields, performances, residence halls, and service projects. You'll write, photograph, film, interview, and create compelling content that celebrates our students, faculty, alumni, and community. You'll help the world see what makes Linsly extraordinary.
- Working closely with our Admission and Advancement teams, you'll develop marketing campaigns and communications that inspire prospective families to explore Linsly while strengthening relationships with alumni, parents, donors, and friends of the School.
- Through thoughtful storytelling and strategic marketing, you'll help support enrollment growth, philanthropic engagement, and lifelong connections to the School.
- Every interaction tells a story. You'll ensure that every publication, social media post, email, video, webpage, advertisement, and printed piece reflects the excellence, warmth, and character that define The Linsly School.
- You'll guide the School's visual identity, messaging, and voice while helping departments communicate consistently and effectively.
- Partnering closely with the Head of School and senior leadership, you'll help communicate the School's vision and priorities through speeches, newsletters, letters, presentations, strategic initiatives, and community messaging.
- You'll serve as a trusted advisor, helping craft communications that build trust, celebrate success, and navigate challenges with professionalism and authenticity.
- You'll oversee the School's website, social media platforms, digital marketing, photography, videography, email communications, and media relations while continually exploring innovative ways to engage audiences and share the Linsly story.
- You'll measure success, adapt strategies, and seek new opportunities to strengthen the School's visibility and reputation.
- The best communications don't happen from behind a desk. You'll attend athletic contests, concerts, theatrical performances, alumni events, traditions, celebrations, and special programs because that's where the moments worth sharing are created.
- Your presence across campus will allow you to capture the authentic experiences that define our community.
- You are curious about people.
- You ask thoughtful questions, listen carefully, and enjoy discovering what inspires others.
- You are equally comfortable writing a speech, interviewing a student after a championship game, producing a campaign video, photographing a science experiment, managing a strategic marketing plan, or brainstorming creative ideas with colleagues.
- You understand both strategy and execution. You appreciate tradition while embracing innovation. You recognize that meaningful communications are built on trust, relationships, and authenticity.
- Most importantly, you believe stories have the power to change perceptions, strengthen communities, and inspire action.
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations, English, or a related field required.
- Five or more years of experience in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, or content strategy, preferably in education or another mission-driven organization.
- Exceptional writing, editing, interviewing, and storytelling skills.
- Experience creating engaging content across print, digital, social media, photography, and video.
- Strong project management and organizational abilities with exceptional attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative leadership approach.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with website content management systems, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, social media platforms, and email marketing tools.
