P & M Steel is looking for a Steel Detailer who enjoys turning structural and architectural drawings into precise, production-ready steel fabrication drawings. If you are detail-oriented, enjoy problem solving, and want to work with a strong team in the steel industry, we would love to hear from you.

In this role, you will work closely with our Operations Manager, project teams, and customers to ensure projects move smoothly from design to fabrication.

What You'll Do

• Create detailed structural steel drawings and material lists from architectural and structural plans.
• Review project documents including plans, addenda, and specifications.
• Produce accurate piece drawings for structural and miscellaneous steel components.
• Verify dimensions, materials, and part relationships within projects.
• Communicate with project managers, customers, erectors, vendors, and engineers.
• Submit RFIs and help resolve project questions or detailing conflicts.
• Track project detailing weight vs. contract weight.
• Participate in team meetings to review safety, workload, and project updates.
• Occasionally visit job sites to verify measurements when needed.
  
  

What We're Looking For

• Ability to read and understand structural and architectural drawings.
• Experience with AutoCAD, Advanced Steel, or similar detailing software.
• Knowledge of AISC standard connections is a plus.
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
• Ability to communicate clearly with both internal teams and customers.
  
  

Preferred Background

• Associate degree in Architectural Drafting or related field.
• 2–4 years of steel detailing or related experience.
  
  

Work Environment

• Primarily office-based with occasional shop or site visits.
• Standard office equipment and drafting software used daily.
  
  

Schedule

• Full-time position
• Core hours 7:00 AM – 4:30 PM, off at noon on Fridays!
• Overtime as needed depending on project schedules
