Position Details:


Role: Cost Accountant

Location: Chennai - Nandanam

Qualification: B.Com & CMA preferred

Experience: 3–6 Years

Industry: Manufacturing


Job Description:


Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain accurate product cost sheets for new and existing products.
  • Analyze and monitor material, labor, and overhead costs; identify and explain cost variances.
  • Perform standard costing and variance analysis, reporting deviations to management.
  • Evaluate BOMs, routings, and manufacturing processes to identify cost optimization opportunities.
  • Ensure accurate allocation, absorption, and control of overheads.
  • Support pricing decisions, margin analysis, and profitability assessment.
  • Assist in inventory valuation, cost audits, and reconciliation of cost records.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
  • Monitor and control expenditures to improve cost efficiency and adherence to budgets.
  • Prepare periodic MIS reports and detailed cost and profitability analyses.
  • Manage and track project costs in coordination with project managers and stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, financial regulations, and audit requirements.
  • Collaborate with production, procurement, engineering, and finance teams to drive cost control initiatives.


Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in commerce, Accounting, or Finance
  • Professional certification such as CMA is preferred.
  • 3–6 years of relevant experience in costing within a manufacturing setup
  • Strong knowledge of cost accounting, standard costing, and variance analysis
  • Hands-on experience with ERP systems (SAP / Oracle / other manufacturing ERPs preferred)
  • Proficient in MS Excel (advanced functions, pivot tables, data analysis)
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and meet tight deadlines


Preferred Competencies

  • Experience in process manufacturing / discrete manufacturing (as applicable)
  • Exposure to CAPEX evaluation and cost-benefit analysis
  • Understanding of inventory management and production planning processes
