The Convention Sales Manager drives destination-wide economic impact by strategically identifying, cultivating, and securing conventions, meetings and conferences that align with the Oklahoma City’s infrastructure, hotel inventory and long-term industry goals. This role is responsible for generating large-scale group business that produces peak hotel room nights, increases occupancy and strengthens the destination’s reputation within targeted industry sectors.
Through proactive prospecting, relationship development, competitive positioning and collaborative bid strategy, the Convention Sales Manager serves as a primary ambassador for the destination and a key revenue generator for the hospitality community.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Strategic Prospecting: Researches and qualifies target markets using industry databases (including MINT) and develops a proactive sales plan aligned with peak night optimization and need periods.
- Business Development: Conducts sales calls, missions, tradeshows, and presentations to engage decision-makers and build long-term relationships with association and corporate planners.
- Lead & Bid Management: Generates and distributes qualified leads to hotel and venue partners; develops customized bid proposals; coordinates room block commitments; and leads site inspections and formal presentations.
- Destination Liaison: Serves as the primary point of contact between planners and hospitality partners during consideration and contracting phases, ensuring alignment and competitive positioning.
- Market Intelligence & Reporting: Monitors industry trends and competitor activity; maintains accurate CRM documentation; submits booking and DI reports; tracks production, conversion, and economic impact metrics.
- Client Stewardship: Attends booked conventions, ensures satisfaction, and maintains post-event engagement to drive repeat business and long-term retention.
Job Requirements & Qualifications:
- Minimum three years hospitality industry sales experience or related experience preferred.
- Skills in account management, direct sales, sales presentations (oral and written) and trade show exhibiting required.
- Experience with Microsoft Office products and PCs is required.
- Understanding of hospitality/tourism industry and experience with DMO software a plus.
- Self-starter and self-motivated individuals will succeed best in this position.
- Ability to develop and write effective reports and business correspondence necessary.
